Report from the field

JAWS! That's what I think of whenever I see that wall getting closer...
It's going to close us up into a...

GHETTO! That's right. To enforce the ethnic cleansing, the Israeli Government wants to keep Jews away from Arabs, not the opposite. Arabs may live and work in "Israel proper," pre-Six Day War Israel. They can even be citizens of the Jewish State, but Jews are restricted.

These border checks are for us, too, G-d forbid!

That's what Olmert's government in planning, and now his Dichter is suggesting giving the Golan Heights to the Syrians! G-d forbid!

The two most crucial mountain ranges or "heights" for Israel's defense are the mountains of Judea and Samaria and the Golan. Before the Six Days War, Syria shelled the kibbutzim and moshavim in what was then the north of the country. The Golan in Israel's hands gave peace to those communities.

Israel's water supply comes from the north.

I wouldn't call Dichter's statements insanity; it's worse than that. He is showing no loyalty to the country he is being paid to serve. Obviously he has different priorities, and the same must be said for his partner, Olmert and other members of their partners.

Our country is in danger. The "handling of the war" must be investigated by people who haven't been involved in the defense establishment for over six years. It is not for the defense establishment to investigate itself.

Reports from the battlefield are of dangerously, horrendous mal-practice. More and more people are joining the call for the government to resign! Today there was a protest march to Jerusalem by reserve soldiers to protest the handling of the war. At the same time, the Israeli Movement for Quality in Government manned a protest vigil between the Supreme Court and Government offices.

Discrimination!

While the folks crossing into Jerusalem get big fancy covered border terminals, those using the Trans-Samarian Highway get pathetic booths.

The only crossing that really worried me was the one near Mehola south of Beit Shean. It actually has a gate that can be closed on the southward side - something I haven't seen on the other checkpoints.

YOu mean: "my border post is bigger than your border post"?

Don't forget, this is Jerusalem!

The road to Kever Rachel is also pretty horrid. GW, I'll be there this week.

I guess I'm a minority opinion. I see "The Wall" both tactically and stragically.

Tactically it makes it difficult (but not impossible) to send Suicide Bombers etc. to destroy Jewish lives. Guarding the Jordanian border was always easier where the fence worked than where it was possible to penetrate without notice!

Strategically "The Wall" makes it possible to keep the illegal workers outside the country; makes it much more difficult to smuggle contraband inside Israel (or stollen goods/vehicles back); in short "The Wall" can be used to force the Palestinians to manage a Real Economy, and not just a waste land of corrupt Mafias.

Used intelligently I can forsee a time when the Arab population of the "West Bank" will decline as the people who live there look for gainful employment elsewhere in the world.

Without "The Wall" none of the above is possible. Just ask the Texans! If it means I have to travel through a "check point" to enter the State of Israel, I have no problem with that. Jewish lives are more important that my discomfort.

But it's not so simple, and we're considered enemies, too.

IMHO this "enemies" mindset is part of the problem. Yes the "establishment" and for the most part "the media" have a different agenda that those of us who came to Israel to live on the Land of Israel as Jews. That not withstanding, if we were to communicate "our agenda" in terms the vast majority of "traditional" and non-observant could identify with, the "balance of power" in this country would quickly change.

By accepting the role of oppressed minority you are empowering those who aspire to marginalize and disenfranchise us.

You guys had enough of the socialists yet? Better yet - had enough socialism?

And why are Olfart, Putz, and Galoot still in office?
