Stop the Waze and Read a Map!

Here's the video of Israeli soldiers, who by following Waze, not having a clue where they were ended up in Jenin and were attacked.

This isn't the first time such a thing has happened. Waze and Google Maps, which should be used to supplement map navigating, quickly replaced the trusty map.

One should first learn location, topography etc, map out a couple of possible routes and then you can check Waze to see which of those routes would be best, due to traffic and all. By first learning about the actual location, you'd be perfectly aware that Waze is recommending entering dangerous territory.

Please don't get me wrong. None of this excuses terrorism and violence by Arab terrorists. The situation that the Israeli Government has allowed terrorists to run free just minutes from innocent Jews is immoral and dangerous in all possible ways. The only apartheid here is the fact that Jews are severely restricted, not allowed by the PA Palestinian Authority Arabs in any place they were given to control. And even worse, Israeli Arab neighborhoods and towns are frequently dangerous for Jews to enter, drive through and shop in. But Arabs are allowed to enter and work unharmed, even renting and buying homes in Jewish neighborhoods.

Learn where you're going. Use a real map.

WAZE/GPS Instead of Maps can be Dangerous

credit

Here in Israel, people have found themselves at death's door while unintentionally visiting our supposed "peace, sic, partners," because they were following  WAZE/GPS.
Three Israelis accidentally enter Ramallah
Three Israelis accidentally drove into the PA-controlled village of Ramallah on Saturday afternoon. Thereafter, they were rescued by the IDF, along with the Israeli Police and Arab Security Forces. The Arab police took them to the Focus Checkpoint, near the Israeli town of Beit El.
I do not know specifically about this case, but when the cause is publicized it is inevitably the same, even when soldiers are involved.
In October, two soldiers accidentally entered PA-controlled Dura, near Hevron, after relying on a navigation app. They were pelted with rocks, but managed to escape safely thanks to security forces' intervention. Later that month, four soldiers accidentally entered Halhul, also near Hevron, after being led there by Waze. (Arutz 7)

Due to the modern reliance on navigation apps, it's becoming extremely rare for people to look at paper maps, and they certainly don't spend time mapping out their trips in advance by looking at the roads and junctions on a map. They don't even look at road signs. They just listen to the voice of their choice (in the set-up for WAZE you can choose the sex and accent of your announcer) coming out of their smartphone.

It's bad enough that civilians aren't familiar with the area, but when soldiers also get lost because they haven't learned maps properly, then it shows how poorly they are trained to deal with real emergencies.

I'm back to teaching remedial EFL in a boys yeshiva high school, and I've told them that it's worth getting used to a dictionary instead of using an electric dictionary or google translate. I say that a dictionary is like learning directions from a may, and the electric dictionary is the WAZE that can steer you into Arab terrorists.

FORGET THE APP
AND USE A MAP!

Who Invented "Palestine?" HADRIAN!

Hadrian, Israel Museum
One of the key points in Israel's hasbara, information campaign should always be that there never ever was a country or people called Palestine. It's an invention. We generally blame it on Europeans in rather recent history, but when I was at the Israel Museum last week and checked out their big exhibit on Hadrian, I got the answer in the short film about him.

It described Hadrian as a sort of renaissance man of contrasts and ironies. He wrote beautiful poetry and was also a warrior. He had a female wife as a proper emperor should, but he lived openly in the army with a male lover. Of course, how open could things have been in the world before photography, telephones and internet?

But the most important little tidbit I gleaned from that movie was that in his efforts to defeat the Jewish People and Nation, he changed the name of the Land from Judea to "Palestine," sic.

The invention was an ancient one, and the aim was the same as the more modern use of the word. It's a simple tool to deny Jewish History and Jewish rights to our Land. That is why the word "Palestine" appears on all sorts of maps over the ages, but when we go back in time, we can see that the only People that ruled that Land directly, not as invaders, conquerors etc was the Jewish People.

Hadrian, Israel Museum

Hadrian:
Hadrian (/ˈheɪdriən/; Latin: Publius Aelius Hadrianus Augustus;[note 1][2][note 2]24 January, 76 AD – 10 July, 138 AD) was Roman emperor from 117 to 138. Hadrian is known for building Hadrian's Wall, which marked the northern limit of Britannia. He also rebuilt the Pantheon and constructed the Temple of Venus and Roma... Wikipedia

There's davka another interesting and relevant exhibit in the Israel Museum that shows the Jewish/Biblical connection to the Land of Israel aka Judea, Navigating the Bible: Early Maps of the Holy Land from the Chinn Collection.

Even though the agenda of the mapmakers is Christian, not Jewish, there are the Jewish cities, like Shiloh and Beit El.  This map exhibit closes at the end of January, so if you want to see it, I suggest going now.

We're Still Here!

Israel is a thriving country, so why have various map-makers wiped us off? Beware before buying globes and maps. Check carefully and boycott those which don't include Israel.

Rahel was surprised to discover "Palestine" on a globe in place of Israel at the International Book Fair.

Newsweek, never Israel's fan has also eliminated us from their map.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry should be working hard to protest these "slights." It seems like Rebranding's "Bimbos on the Beach" have drowned.
