Politically "Homeless" Post Israeli Elections 2019

I've seen this term on the pages of a few facebook friends who, like me, had supported Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked's "The New Right" party. The New Right missed getting into the Knesset by a ridiculously small number of votes.

In response to those who suggest that we should "just return to the NRP/Jewish Home party," that's totally absurd and further proof that I've been orphaned yet again.

Why do they presume that I had a home in the Jewish Home?

I'm not of Bnai Akiva/NRP/Jewish Home. My Torah Judaism is a result of my years in NCSY, my Zionism is from Betar and it was coming to age during the 1967 Six Days War which drew me to live in Liberated Shiloh.

My Israeli political identification was more Yisrael Eldad than Menachem Begin, especially once Begin gave Egypt the Sinai and destroyed all of the Jewish communities that had been built there. As a result of the Camp David Accords, I aligned with the Techiya Party, but after about a decade, that, too failed to make the cut and enter the Knesset. Since then I find myself searching for a political party which I can trust ideologically.

One very important thing that keeps me from feeling "at home" in The Jewish Home is that I am ideologically opposed to parties based on religious observance. Here in the State of Israel we must look out for all Jews and citizens, what's best for the entire country, not just the "crocheted kippah" crowd.

The second recommended option for political affiliation is the Likud, but that, too isn't a good match for me. The Likud is too Centrist for my ideology, and I firmly believe that it is important that there be a strong Right party to pull the Likud Right.

The New Right was a good match for my requirements, and I like and respect some of the top people. I think there were two reasons they missed votes. One was in their control, and the other wasn't, though there's a connection.

1. Moshe Feiglin's mishmash/supermarket party with a conflicting/contradicting choice of ideologies, plus his past as a Right wing politician/wannabe attracted some voters who had been debating between him and New Right. Some of them refused to read the "fine print" of his platform and Knesset list; they voted for Feiglin.
2. I wasn't impressed by the campaign run by the New Right. I had been hoping that Caroline Glick would have been given free hand to produce and publicize a lot of Latma style campaign videos,which would have been more attractive and less strident. I have no doubt that the additional voters they would have attracted would easily have put the New Right into the Knesset.

Now I'm politically homeless, or more accurately orphaned. While my favorite politicians and political wannabes lick their wounds, recover, heal and plan for the future, I'll wait patiently. Really, there isn't much else for me to do. I won't be quiet. I'll blog and comment when I have something to say. That's what I do.

Gd willing Binyamin Netanyahu and his crew will build a ruling coalition that will pleasantly surprise me. Let's see if he really annexes all the yishuvim, which was his last minute campaign promise.

Gd willing next Knesset Elections results will be more to my liking.

The Con, Hoax, Myth of "Palestine," sic

There isn't and never was a "Palestinian People." There is no historical basis for claims that they have rights. This part of the world, aka the Land of Israel has been invaded and occupied by many armies, but the only people that actually had an independent viable nation/kingdom here are Jews.

It was Hadrian who could be credited with inventing "Palestine," sic, by changing the name of this part of the world on the maps from Judea to Palestine.

The well-known military advice/adage is:

"The best defense is a good offense."

Very unfortunately and potentially tragically, the State of Israel has ignored this principle. We haven't invented a good defensive weapon since the "Davidka," which was a brilliant bluff, more than an effective weapon.

And like in any classic case of bullying and bribery, each Israeli concession is met with more demands.

Thanks to Caroline Glick's Latma team for translating (subtitles) the new Latma, the Right Israeli satirical show, which now appears on Chanel One every week. It's longer than the old Latma and has mostly different actors.



Latma is otherwise still the Latma we knew and loved when it was an "unofficial program," developed by Glick.

Caroline Glick is definitely one of, if not the best political thinkers on the scene today. Her Jerusalem Post op-eds are unbeatable. Here's her latest that has more truth than the rest of the newspaper.

Netanyahu’s true electoral rival

Officially, the election on March 17 is among Israelis. Depending on how we vote, either Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will remain in office and form the next government led by his Likud party, or Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni will form a government.

But unofficially, a far greater electoral drama is unfolding. The choice is not between Netanyahu and Herzog/Livni. It is between Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama.

As the White House sees it, if Herzog/Livni form the next government, then Jerusalem will dance to Obama’s tune. If Netanyahu is reelected, then the entire edifice of Obama’s Middle East policy may topple and fall.

Secretary of State John Kerry made clear the administration’s desire to topple Netanyahu last spring during his remarks before the Trilateral Commission. It was during that memorable speech that Kerry libeled Israel, claiming that we would automatically and naturally become an apartheid state if we don’t give Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria to the PLO, Jew free, as quickly as possible.

Despite Israel’s venality, Kerry held out hope. In his words, “if there is a change of government [in Israel], or a change of heart, something will happen.”

Shortly after Kerry gave his Israel apartheid speech, his Middle East mediator Martin Indyk attacked Israel and the character of the Israeli people in an astounding interview toYediot Aharonot.Among other things, Indyk hinted that to force Israel to make concessions demanded by the PLO, the Palestinians may need to launch another terror war.

Indyk also threatened that the Palestinians will get their state whether Israel agrees to their terms of not. In his words, “They will get their state in the end – whether through violence or by turning to international organizations.”

Indyk made his statements as an unnamed US official. When his identity was exposed, he was forced to resign his position. Following his departure from government service he returned to his previous position as vice president of the Brookings Institution and the director of its foreign policy program. Last September, The New York Times reported that the Brookings Institute received a $14.8 million, four-year donation from Qatar, the chief financier of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.... First of all, for those who like following the election polls, I suggest that you keep checking Jeremy's site.

The trend seems pretty clear in all but one of the polls; the Likud is slowly pulling ahead of the oxymoron party aka Zionist Movement led by Isaac Herzog and Tsipi Livni.

Recent newscasts and the usual Leftist Israeli media have been bemoaning the failing or "non-existent" according to them, actual campaign of the Zionist Union-Labor and Tsipi. According to them, after the "swinging" announcement, much mocked by many, of the union of the veteran Labor Party and Tsipi Livni, born and raised in a noble Revisionist family, there hasn't been much of a campaign.

One of the news shows I watched ended with the wish that maybe they, the news editors, were premature in their analysis. There was hope that future polls would show much better results for Labor-Livni.

Last night heralded the return of Latma, the totally fantastic satire by Caroline Glick, finally returned. This time on the "big screen" of Chanel 1 TV.

It ended with a song about Tsipi and the hapless Herzog. She was the tough male figure of the pair, and he wore the wedding gown. She picked him up on her motorcycle, drove off very dangerously. They have an accident, and when the police come they point to each other as the guilty driver. And then before Herzog even realizes that he has been "had," she's off calling "Yair, Yair..." I agree with that as a suitable reaction of Tsipi's the minute it's clear that she has destroyed or seriously damaged Labor. And that's why I call her the "political nymphomaniac."

There's a long time trend in the Israeli political scene which can't be stopped, because it's totally due to numbers. I'm talking demographics. Religious, traditional and of course chareidi families are larger than the secular ones. Official statistics also show the size of Arab families shrinking. I see that in my Arab customers, Yafiz, Sha'ar Binyamin.

For these 2015, 5775 elections, add to that the so far weak campaign from the Left, based on gimme! and ignoring security. They will have to work much, much harder if they want to win. Numbers are against them.

Re: My Mention in Ha'aretz, Mistakes by Writer Allison Kaplan Sommer

As my husband blogged and others have told me, my Caroline Glick post was mentioned and quoted in Ha'aretz, ROUTINE EMERGENCIES, by Allison Kaplan Sommer. I don't pay for their "premium" which gives unlimited access to their site. I couldn't get the article on my computer, so people sent it to me by copying, which of course can be done. I'm only going to quote the relevant sections about me and what I think Sommer got totally wrong.

It is such outspokenness that causes some of Glick’s fans on the right to voice distress - not pleasure - at the prospect of her signing up with the Likud. Batya Medad, writing in the blog “Shiloh Musings” warned that if Glick joins Netanyahu, that her one-state solution “hard-hitting opinions” will be “muzzled window-dressing” in the Likud, and she will merely act as “window-dressing” for Netanyahu.
“It’s because I agree with and respect Caroline Glick that I want her to stay on the outside where she won’t be muzzled and disciplined. We need an “untied” Caroline Glick!!”
Medad and company needn’t panic just yet. Glick’s Likud spot is far from a done deal, and she hasn’t even confirmed that an offer was made. It’s not clear precisely how politically advantageous for Netanyahu choosing her would be. Glick is far from a household name to non-English speaking Israelis, and her public repudiation of the two-state solution puts her in the politically problematic right end of the Likud spectrum. It’s not a political position she can fudge or conceal. Her latest book, after all, is titled The Israeli Solution: A One State Plan for Peace in the Middle East.

First of all, to refer to Glick as "far from a household name to non-English speaking Israelis" is totally false. She is bilingual and has an extremely large Hebrew-speaking fan base. Latma was/is in Hebrew besides a couple of their songs. I think the anglo writer Allison Kaplan Sommer is just projecting her own language restrictions/limitations here. There's plenty of Hebrew on Glick's facebook page, and she has been in Israel for a long time.

I'm a cynic and I have a nasty suspicion that Bibi wants Glick in the party Likud Party Knesset list for one reason and one reason only, to get votes. As much as he couldn't stand Moshe Feiglin, he can't deny that Feiglin brought in votes, but it was clear to all that those votes won't return. Feiglin supporters didn't even show up to vote in the Likud Primaries. Many are joining Bennett's Jewish Home, or Otzma Yehudit or are just plain disenchanted with politics.

Caroline Glick will attract votes and I'm sure that the "election events planners" would love a debate between her and Ayelet Shaked who agree on just about everything except which party to support.

Here's the Altalena story all over again, but this time when the weapon is words and the media, the government has done its best to attack, sink Latma, Caroline Glick's brilliant Israeli satire program.

Consider the Latma tragicomedy of errors. For two years, the IBA “negotiated” with Caroline Glick (senior contributing editor of The Jerusalem Post) to air The Tribal Update, the satirical news program she launched four years ago on the Internet through her Hebrew-language, satirical media criticism website Latma.

What distinguishes Latma from “regular” Israeli satire in that it is pro-Israel and unabashedly Zionist. The show regularly mocks leftist icons from the PLO to Peace Now while skewering the Israeli media for its radical left-wing biases. Latma’s flagship television-on-Internet program is the antithesis of Channel 2’s flagship satire program Eretz Nehederet, which is openly and unabashedly post-Zionist.

Mordechai Shaklar, the previous director-general of the IBA, was the first to push for Latma’s show to be broadcast on Channel 1. Best of Latma, Part 2

Latma is the brilliant Israeli political parody brought to us by Caroline Glick.  Due to financial problems, it's being forced to change somehow. 

After 200 episodes, the Tribal Update, Latma's flagship satirical newscast is coming to a close. We were supposed to be broadcast on Israel TV's Channel 1 as the station's prime time satire show. We were approved by all the professional committees not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 times over the past two years. Time after time, they told us they were about to send us the contract. We even sat down and negotiated a contract with them a year ago, but then, each time, they put us on hold. In this fourth iteration of this farce, we have been waiting to receive a contract since Shavuot. Maybe one will arrive in the mail. Maybe it got lost in the mail. Or maybe our assessment at the outset, that the Left's control over the Israeli media is so enormous that leftist commissars are willing to break their own rules to keep a satirical voice of Zionism off the air was spot on, and they will continue leading us by the nose and pretending they are a meritorcracy and don't discriminate against Zionists for the next generation.

At any rate, we have reached the end of our financial rope. Over the past year, believing the stories we were told by the powers that be on Channel 1 that we would be moving to the small screen almost immediately, we built up the production capabilities of a top line prime time television show. And the costs, for a donation based project are just too high. So we're ending our run...

I'm not one of those who knows what will happen next, but the Latma team has put together this "Best of Latma" program, which is definitely worth watching.

The last two episodes of the Tribal Update, this week's and next week's are a celebration of our accomplishments over the past four years, and a celebration of the values of Zionism that motivate all of our endeavors.

Okay, the moment has arrived.

Latma will be closing at the end of July, and the bad guys are already celebrating. Gloating, joyful statuses have already begun to appear here and there, alongside slanderous and angry statuses about the (imaginary, for now) possibility that we might begin airing on Channel 1.

We also read on the internet about our contract with Channel 1. In reality, there is nothing. We are being turned away, time and again, back and forth, for two years now, each time with a different excuse, and it seems that there is no end in sight. What is in sight is the end of July, when Latma’s budget runs out, and Latma will disappear.

The vultures on the Left can already smell the end. After four years of producing brave Israeli and Zionist satire that went against the stream, standing opposed to all the left wing incitement that everyone had already accepted, because they somehow convinced everyone that “that’s how satire works”. Four years where we pounded them, four years when Yariv Oppenheimer and his friends’ ears turned red from rage, when they discovered they were not immune to criticism and piercing satire.

The inciters, the boycotters and Israel’s enemies also got their fair share, from the Flotilla video on YouTube, which gathered millions of views, boosted the Israeli morale and changed the world’s viewpoint, through the “Abba” clip that infuriated the Swedes following the Aftonbladet blood libel, to our very own Tawil Fadicha, Palestinian Minister of Uncontrollable Rage. A character that never would have been created on one of the “regular” satire shows screwing up your heads on the television screen.

This is all going to end, because there’s no money left. We don’t have the astronomically huge budgets “It’s A Wonderful Land” has, we don’t have the unlimited support of organizations in Europe and elsewhere, who call themselves “Human Rights Organizations”. We don’t even have the cultural institutions budget or the haircuts that theaters like Habima get, the same theaters whose actors boycott the settlements. Standing against this sea of hypocrisy and evil, thanks to the amazing Caroline Glick, Latma subsisted until today with the help of proud Zionist Jews, who were touched by her enthusiasm and belief. But even that great force has a limit.

Today we look like a review of the sick and wounded. Caroline cares for two little children and two sick parents in the United States and travels there often, and how much more can we ask of her? Noam has his arm in a cast, but insists on coming to the filming, Ronit was lightly wounded from a stone throwing attack while traveling with her family in Judea and Samaria, but showed up for the filming two days later. I myself went through a health issue that immobilized me for two months, and I’ve not entirely recovered from it, but I’ve gotten up, come back, and continued working.

From our small studio in Petach Tikva, we kept producing editions, week after week. Persistently, without season, without taking breaks. With a lot of creative spirit, happiness and belief. But our morale has sunk and hit rock bottom. There’s a feeling of defeat.

So the bad guys win? The crows n the left are sitting on the branch and waiting. Already sharpening their beaks, already celebrating.

But you know what, that motivates me. Our answer to their evil and depravity will be more action. That’s how you always win. We won’t go down, damn it! We’ll get back on our feet, Latma will not disappear. We can’t let this amazing project fall. Latma must stay and must continue being the voice of the public that is being deprived by the media and the Left, the public that we were there for, like water to a fish, every week.

To do that, the public needs to help us. We need money. It’s that simple. Latma’s operating costs for a full month are approximately 220,000 shekels,  a quarter of one episode – one! – of “It’s A Wonderful Land”. In a year we need approximately 2.6 million shekels, for an entire year. It’s not unreachable; it’s something that if we all get up and give what we can – we can reach it. “It’s A Wonderful Land” will put out barely three weekly episodes with that kind of budget, we put out 50 episodes. With half of that
we can do half a year, with double that we can do two years, either way, it gives us the oxygen we need to get stronger and reorganize for the future.

It’s not enough to just hit “Like” or express sorrow and concern. This isn’t the time to cry, sit and whine about the country, about the left that’s taken over our lives, this is the time to act! Reach into your pocket and donate in the link below, by check, bank transfer, or credit card. Whatever you can, 20, 50, 100 however much you can. Shekel by shekel, we’ll make it.

Soon we’ll also make a fundraising film for Headstart. We will succeed, we can do it! Share, share, share, as much as you can! Send this to everyone, so it will be seen all over the country, for all I care, it can reach the haters too, who in their stupidity will share it as mockery, to defame and deride. Send it to the entirety of Judea and Samaria, to every single email, to everyone who cares about this country, that this country is important to
them.

A "Good News Bad News" Picture

Let's start with the bad news.  Arabs have resumed their murdering ways, throwing, rocks, stones, boulders at Jews innocently traveling the roads in the Land of Israel.  There was a time when these sights were murderously common. 

In typical Israeli inventiveness, "rock-proof windows" were developed, extra-strong or specially coated or plastic car/bus windows became the government supported norm in Judea and Samaria. To this day, because the Arab terrorists upgraded their attacks with armed weapons, bulletproof buses and even cars became the norm.  School and public buses are still bulletproof in many areas. And our bus fares have been halved officially to encourage people to take buses rather than unprotected or less protected private vehicles. Then we had some blessed years of quiet on the roads, and again people felt safe in regular vehicles, those without special protective windows.

Now, the Arabs are aiming to murder Jews on the roads again.

Ronit Avrahamof Shapira, known to many as Ronit the newscaster from Youtube political satire Latma, survived a road ambush by rock-throwing terrorists Sunday night. She was in the family car that was being driven by her husband, Eliezer (“Leizi”), and their small children.
Shapira told the tale on her Facebook page.
“The rock terror has reached us, the Shapira family, too. An Arab terrorist tried to murder us too, tonight.
“We were traveling in our car in Samaria, at 10:00 p.m. Leizi identifies rocks on the road, understands what is happening. He shouts to me, to protect our babies in the back seat, and as fast as the speed of light, a stone (Not just any stone. Think of a large rock, and now think bigger. Something the size of a nice grapefruit) smashes the window next to me.
“Pieces of glass everywhere. On my body, in every possible place, on our babies. They are reclining innocently in their seats and a million bits of glass, large and small, cover them. And a kind of glass dust, that only G-d knows how to clean off of them. And off of me.
“I am injured. Blood. A little, but blood nonetheless. On the face, on the hands. On my baby’s leg. We flee for our lives. Scared to death that more rocks may be headed our way. I am not sure what is going on. Are we being fired upon? When the rocks hit the car, the noise is powerful, like gunshots. Plus the flying glass and the blood.

What's the good news?  On this particular car, which I saw parked in my neighborhood, the damage was minimal.  The window is still whole and nobody was hurt.

This week's Tribal Update has a fantastic, but embarrassingly sad, pathetic and embarrassing  skit showing Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and American Secretary of State John Kerry together.  Bibi continuously contorts himself according to instructions Kerry gets from Abu Mazen on the phone.



There are some really good skits in this week's edition of Latma's news parody. I think the show is getting better every week.
