Busy Summer at Shiloh Hakedumah, Tel Shiloh

There are archeological excavations going on all the time at Tel Shiloh.  Besides that the new "tower" has opened, which includes  a fascinating movie about Biblical Shiloh.   In addition there will be our annual events, the TU B'Av Dancing in the Vineyards, on Sunday July 21 and T'fillat Chana, again featuring Rabbanit Yemima Mizrachi on Wed. August  28. For more information try  emailing visit@telshilo.org.il or call 02-994-4019.

Besides all of these large events, we still come to pray every Rosh Chodesh at Tel Shiloh.

Stand-up Comedy, Religious Women Only!

I had no idea what to expect when I went off with some neighbors to Ofra to hear Rebbitzin Yemima Mizrachi. I had first heard about her from my friend and neighbor, the late Penina Siton, Z"L. Penina loved her shiurim (classes) and got written texts/transcripts of Rebbitzin Yemima's Parshat Shavua (Torah Portion of the Week) page. The last couple of times I visited Penina she talked about it. Also, either (or both) at the "Azkara," (Memorial Evening) her daughters made for her or when visiting the mourning home, we were told how Rebbitzin Yemima visited Penina as she lay dying in the hospital.

I must admit that I didn't really pay attention to the announcement that Rebbitzin Yemima would be speaking in Ofra, but then I was offered a ride, and I believe that when the unexpected happens, it's a hint from G-d. My husband said that he'd stay with my father, so I accepted the offer.

We had been told that it's important to get to her shiurim early, since they can be very crowded. When we got to the main shul in Ofra, I figured that a women's class would be in one of the small room, but I was wrong. We went into the large main sanctuary. As we were among the first to arrive, we got good seats close up. By the time Rebbitzin Yemima arrived, the place was packed. Hundreds and hundreds of women from the various yishuvim, Jewish communities nearby filled every seat and brought in some more.

I was rather wary, expecting a "mussar," advice, admonishing type of talk, but this was the exact opposite, as you can guess from the title. There was advice, but the delivery was pure stand-up containing lots of common sense. There was lots of "food for thought."

Sorry to disappoint; I really can't think of anything specific at the moment. I also took a picture of the women crowding around her afterwards, but my computer isn't cooperating with the upload. G-d willing I'll try in the morning.

Good night, and yes, I'd go hear her again and recommend her to others. She speaks in Hebrew.
