Save The Date: Women's Rosh Chodesh Adar Alef Prayers

Since we're in the Jewish Month of Shvat, that means Adar is next. This year there will be two months of Adar, Alef and Bet. Adar is traditionally a month of joy, culminating in the Purim Holiday which will be in the middle of the second Adar.

Shiloh Hakeduma aka Tel Shiloh is the actual location of the Biblical Shiloh where the Tabernacle stood for almost four hundred 400 years predating Jerusalem as the Jewish Capital City. It was Shiloh where Jews came to pray, most notably Chana, who prayed for a son. Today Shiloh Hakeduma is a well-developed archeological site with activities suitable for all ages. You can easily spend the day there happily. For more information: call 02-5789122 Fax: 02-9948011 visit@telshilo.org.il

Wintery Rosh Chodesh Shevat

Chodesh Tov!

Today's Rosh Chodesh Shevat, and I had to decide between risking getting soaked and then stuck at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh or just walking to wear I could see the Site of the Biblical Mishkan Tabernacle and pray there. I went for the view of the holy site, rather than risk my health. Judaism stresses that one isn't supposed to risk their heath. That's why today, when group gatherings --including prayers-- are considered possible contagion sources for COVID corona, many people either gather in small minimal groups outdoors or stay home for prayers.

A friend and I joined together via WhatsApp video for Hallel, which we prayed out loud. I don't think anyone was within hearing distance to me. Considering the weather, it was perfect.

Of course the weather did get brighter immediately after we finished, but I expected that. And I also was sure that if I had walked to Shiloh Hakeduma Tel Shiloh it would have rained. One can always count on Murphy's Law

Next Rosh Chodesh will be Adar, which falls on Friday and Saturday/Shabbat, February 12 & 13. So we'll plan on praying together that Friday, 8:30am Gd willing.

בעוד חודש יהיה ראש חודש אדר, ימי שישי ושבת, אז בע"ה נתפלל ביחד בשילה הקדומה ביום ו', 12\02\2021 ב8:30 בבוקר.

In all the years I've been organizing Women's Rosh Chodesh Prayers at Tel Shiloh, this is the first year when two months in a row it rained Rosh Chodesh morning. Gd willing this is a good sign for the Land of Israel and the Jewish People.

Save The Date: Rosh Chodesh Kislev

Chances are that Rosh Chodesh Kislev will be colder than Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan was. And Gd willing we'll have already been blessed by a nice rainfall or two or more by then. But whether we'll need to equip ourselves with coats, umbrellas or whatever's... we'll still need to mask up.

The world has changed, but the Jewish Calendar hasn't. We're still governed by the moon's cycles, adjusted periodically so holidays will fall in the correct seasons. There's nothing more amazing than the Jewish Calendar which has rooted us to the Land of Israel, even during millennia of exile. I consider our ancient/modern calendar the unmistakable proof that the Land of Israel is the true home for the Jewish People. Our religion/calendar revolves around the seasons in the Land of Israel.

Rosh Chodesh Kislev falls in early winter. I keep track of Rosh Chodesh, because of our Women's Prayers at Tel Shiloh, Shiloh Hakeduma. This year:

Yes, you read it correctly. I decided to experiment and invite for both days of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz. It will herald one of those months that has the 30th day of the previous month and the first of the new one, both as Rosh Chodesh requiring Hallel, the Rosh Chodesh Musaf and Yaale viyavo...

I hope and pray that women will attend at least one of the Rosh Chodesh Prayers.

The chances are that face masks will still be required, even though our prayers are outdoors. We must take into account that there are senior citizens and others with compromised immune systems in our prayer group.

Paste your faces here, and join our Women's Rosh Chodesh
Prayers. Animals certainly not required.
Considering that today's Rosh Chodesh Marchesvan, it may seem a bit early to be making plans for next month, Rosh Chodesh Kislev, but I'd love to see a big crowd of women praying together at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh.

Just like this month, Rosh Chodesh Kislev 5780 is two days, the last of Cheshvan and the first of Kislev. Our prayer group has decided to meet Friday, November 29, 2019, 1st of Kislev, 5780, at 8:30am.

Chodesh Ellul Tov, 5779, September 1, 2019

Rosh Chodesh Ellul, 5779, and the opening of the Israeli school year will both be September 1, 2019. I guess that means young mothers and teachers will be too busy to pray with us at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh. We had a nice size group of various ages Rosh Chodesh Ellul, B"H. The turnout varies from month to month.

Ellul is a very special month in the Jewish Calendar. It's the month before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Ellul is the time for heightened Teshuva, Repentance, before the gates close on Yom Kippur. Of course we're always supposed to do teshuva and not wait. Nobody knows when death or incapacity will come. Ellul is an extra important time to pray in Judaism's holy sites of which Shiloh is a major one.

Shiloh was the location of the Mishkan, Tabernacle which predated the Holy Temple in Jerusalem by close to one hundred years. For 369 years Shiloh was the Capital, main city for the Jewish People. It was in Shiloh, at the Tabernacle where Hannah prayed to Gd for a son who would lead the Jewish People from the anarchy of the time of Judges. Hannah's son was Samuel the Prophet, who annointed our first two kings, Saul and David.

Archeologist are active and busy in Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh, discovering the ruins of Biblical age buildings and the city wall, which confirm the Biblical narrative.

As an archaeological site which welcomes tourists, Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh, is constantly updating. There are all sorts of user friendly high tech activities to explain life in Biblical Shiloh. A visit is enjoyable and informative for all ages.

Rosh Chodesh Av, Ladies, Join Us in Prayer

Friday August 2, 2019 will be Rosh Chodesh Av 5779, the beginning of the Jewish month of Av. It's a sad day on the Jewish Calendar, as it begins the "Nine Days," a period of heightened mourning of the destruction of the Holy Temple.

We're soon beginning the period of the "Three Weeks" which is "bookended" by fast days, 17th of Tammuz, a daytime fast, and the 9th of Av, which is a 25 hour fast. Over the millenia many terrible things happened to the Jewish People on these dates.

Even though Rosh Chodesh Av is a sad day, we still pray all the usual Rosh Chodesh Prayers, including Hallel. There will be Women's Rosh Chodesh Prayers at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh.

Rosh Chodesh Av, Friday 1st of Av, 5779, August 2, 2019 at 8:30am, Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh. For more information email me shilohmuse@gmail.com, subject: Rosh Chodesh.

We pray traditionally, silent prayers silently, and Hallel is sung together. We hope more women will join us at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh.

Shiloh is one of the holiest cities for the Jewish People. It was the very first capital, predating Jerusalem. The Mishkan, Tabernacle was brought to Shiloh a by Joshua after entering the Holy Land. There wasn't even need for a battle to take over Shiloh. The city welcomed the Jewish returnees, very much like in recent times.

Today, besides the vibrant town of Shiloh and the many surrounding Jewish communities, the area where the Tabernacle once stood is now a fully recognized archeological site. People come from all over the world to visit, learn, tour and dig. By the way, there will be the 8th Kenes Shiloh on July 25, 2019. The event is in Hebrew and includes tours and lectures.

For more information about visiting Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh, contact visit@telshilo.org.il, or call 02-5789111. It's suitable for all ages.

Enjoying Jewish Month of Sivan, Tammuz is Next

We're now a week into the Jewish Month of Sivan, after celebrating Shavuot. The joyous seven weeks of holidays, and counting the Omer, when we celebrated a week of Passover, Israeli Independence Day and Jerusalem Day  are now in the past. Of course, we'll repeat the cycle next year Gd willing. Let's stay on that holiday high, because next month begins a more somber time on the Jewish Calendar.

Next month is the Jewish Month of Tammuz, and Tammuz leads to Av, which has the saddest day of the Jewish Year. But don't get depressed; it's too early. Rosh Chodesh Tammuz is a happy day. Actually it's doubly happy, since we celebrate it on the 30th of Sivan and the 1st of Tammuz. My Women's Rosh Chodesh Prayer Group has decided that we're praying together on Wednesday, the 30th of Sivan, July 3, 2019.

Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, Wednesday, the 30th of Sivan, 5779, July 3, 2019 at 8:30am, Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh. For more information email me shilohmuse@gmail.com, subject: Rosh Chodesh.

We pray traditionally, silent prayers silently, and Hallel is sung together.  We hope more women will join us at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh.

It is agreed by Biblical and archaeological experts that Shiloh Hakeduma is the Biblical site. Every year during the archaeological seasonal digs, more artifacts prove it and give glimpses of life thousands of years ago. For more information, arrange special tours, events and more contact visit@telshilo.org.il, or call 02-5789111.

For thousands of years women have come to pray at the holy site of Shiloh, where the Mishkan Tabernacle had stood for 369 years. It predated the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

Today there is a constantly updated and developed Biblical archaeological site in Shiloh Hakeduma. One can easily spend the day there. It is open on weekdays and is suitable for all ages.
