Sympathizing With The Arab Agressors on Israeli News, No Way!

I quickly changed channels and not for the first time.  It seems that I'm always changing channels when watching the news nowadays.  At least I have a choice of news channels.  I know it's really a war on here in Israel, because all of the channels are offering war coverage, news, interviews etc.

The problem is that most of the politicians and "experts" we are offered are from the far Left.  I'm really not interested in some Meretz MK or "thinker" telling me that it's our fault because we haven't "made peace" with the Arabs.  And I don't see the point in interviewing some Israeli Arab who has family in Gaza to ask him how he feels about Israeli bombing his sweet loving relatives.  That's especially when he answers claiming that "nobody supports this cruel war" Israel has imposed on the Arabs.

My fingers go hyper clicking looking for something else to watch when our Israeli TV keeps showing Arab demonstrations abroad protesting our self-defense.  I haven't caught any reports of pro-Israel demonstrations or meetings.  I can't believe there haven't been any.  Nu, have there?

On rare occasions there are even some coalition MK's and even ministers, but they are rarely permitted to complete a sentence.  The so-called journalists interviewing them are rude to say the least.  They argue as if they are the experts and the MK's and ministers are just a bunch of idiots.  Well, at least the politicians were elected, which is more than any of those TV people can say for themselves.

The television news is our internal hasbara, information campaign.  Its job is to keep the public confident and motivated not to encourage sympathy with the enemy nor unwarranted fear.

On occasion they have done well, especially when interviewing Israelis of all ages from the south.  Ordinary people, even kids, seem to have a better grasp of security and the actual situation.  There were some teenagers interviewed who very easily made the tv journalist look scared and ridiculous.  That's a clip that should be repeated over and over.  The younger generation is fantastic.

If you're not in Israel or are but don't have television, then you can access Israeli news here in English and here in Hebrew.  Generally the English news is more pro-Israel and less multi-cultural than the Hebrew.  And of course there are other Israeli news sites.

I needed the rant, sorry and thanks.

Operation Pillar of Defense, Rocket Shooting Competition

I'm finding this latest war against Israel, the  Operation Pillar of Defense, to be a strange one, sort of by remote control in a sense.  It's a rocket shooting competition on civilian targets.  The Gazan Arab terrorists purposely aim to murder and terrorize Israeli civilians, while Israel tries to aim only at the terror networks, but have no choice other than to hit civilians because the Hamas Gazan terrorists use them as shields.

Even though tens of thousands of Israeli reservists have been called up to active service so far, as we approach the end of the first official week of the war, it has been more of a target shooting competition than anything else.  Israel has been using technology aka the Iron Dome to try to catch and destroy the deadly rockets before they hit civilian areas.
  1. Unfortunately the Iron Dome gives people the feeling that nothing will harm them and then they take risks they shouldn't.
  2. Unfortunately the Iron Dome isn't 100% effective.
  3. Unfortunately the Iron Dome is relied upon as if it is an offensive weapon, which it isn't.
  4. Unfortunately the Iron Dome is defensive only and has no positive influence on the Arab Hamas Gazan enemy.
  5. Unfortunately the Iron Dome just encourages the terrorists to produce and fire more deadly rockets at us in order to give the "misses" more weight.
Remember:

DEFENSE IS NOT OFFENSE

This is something our tech-crazy Defense Minister Ehud Barak frequently forgets.
Defense protects us, but only offense will destroy the enemy.

On the good side, we have G-d and history:

We're soon going to be celebrating the Holiday of Chanukah, an example of how we Jews, a small nation and country with minimal fighting force defeated the mighty ancient Greeks.
Maccabees, annoyed, in unison: What does “hard” have to do with it?
Fortunately for us, the Maccabees were not discouraged by difficulty. If they had been, the Hellenists would have won, and Judaism would have disappeared. Not only would there be no Chanukah, but there would be no Judaism and no Jews.
The Maccabees, dedicated to an ideal and undaunted by difficulty, are indeed worthy Jewish role models. The world’s highest pole-vaulter has nothing on them!
And who are today's enemies?  We have many, especially because I include those who find all sorts of excuses to support Hamas, Arab terrorists and the faux fake Palestinians.

We must never give up.  The more determined we are, the more strength and miracles G-d will give us to achieve victory over our enemies.

Real Life in The War Zone

Here's one of the public service posters about what to do if you may be under attack.  That means that although you weren't aware that your area is targeted, there's suddenly a siren or "boom."

Jewish Press

In Israel, depending on where and when your home was built there may be some sort of shelter.  Our Bayit Vegan, Jerusalem apartment had been built pre-1967 Six Days War, when all of Jerusalem was dangerous border area, so the building had a public shelter.  Periodically, even in the 1970's, inspectors would come and fine all of the residents if we didn't keep it clean, empty and usable.  We huddled there Yom Kippur, 1973, when the sirens blasted heralding the official beginning of the Yom Kippur War, after our forces had been surprised attacted in the Golan and Sinai.

Today all homes built or expanded, needing building permits, in Samaria, and most probably Judea and the rest of the country, must include a security room.  But thirty years ago when we began planning our Shiloh home, this wasn't required, so we don't have one.  There are a number of "public shelters" throughout the neighborhood, but all have been appropriated for "community purposes, " such as synagogues and study halls.

No doubt, most Israeli communities, like Shiloh, are organizing to assist families in need.  I'm going to list a number of posts from other blogs that will give you a better idea of how this war, Operation Pillar of Defense, is really affecting Israelis.

Last night an official spokesperson from Israel's "digital pr" department urged us all to participate in the media war.  This post is a contribution. Please read and share, thanks.
