Oslo Accords Never Could have brought Peace

Why is the Left, still beating a dead horse? It's decades after the Oslo Accords was revealed, and it was a rogue action. The Israelis who "negotiated" it hadn't been sent by the Israeli Government. They should have been jailed for treason.

Rabin was suspicious of Oslo Accords, but he allowed Peres to bulldoze him into supporting it.

Why have there been so many articles about it recently?

Israeli Politics, Polls and Predictions

Considering that the norm in Israel is to have elections earlier than legally scheduled, the country always suffers a form of "election fever." Yes, think of it as a chronic "infection."

There's never a guarantee that your vote will produce an MK here in Israel.

Besides scheduled Knesset, remember that here the MKs are elected on party lists, not as individuals, Elections, there are two basic ways that elections can be called. One is that the ruling coalition loses a crucial vote which "brings down the government," and the second way is for the sitting Prime Minister to "call for early elections."

The Opposition has to grow to a considerable parliamentary strength for the first, which means that coalition MKs must have deserted the ship. Prime Ministers usually call for early elections when they think they can improve and expand their coalition. But that is risky, because as PM Netanyahu recently discovered; polls can change in a jiffy.

It's no secret that two young party leaders are dreaming of unseating long-serving Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. They are Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett.

Bennett is trying to do it from the inside and the Right. Leader of the NRP, now called Bayit Yehudi-Jewish Home, Bennett has had a rather turbulent relationship with Bibi. He's trying to make history by radically changing the NRP from perennial sidekick to national leadership.

Yair Lapid came from the Left, forming his own party, which has been evolving to more Center Right in his quest for the "big prize." And recent polls show that his Yesh Atid, There's a Future, is running neck and neck with Netanyahu's Likud.
Channel 10 Poll: Likud 26, Yesh Atid 25, Bayit Yehudi 13, Joint List 13, Zionist Union 10; Yaalon 0
But it's very possible that Lapid will have the same unpleasant experience that Tsipi Livne had a few years ago when she was at the helm of Kadima. Even though Kadima had scraped by with more MKs, than the Likud she wasn't able to form a ruling coalition. Bibi succeeded, and Tsipi is now just a postscript in Israeli political history.

Remember that Netanyahu hasn't lasted as Prime Minister all this time by chance. He's a very experienced and wily politician. I don't think that Bennett or Lapid will have an easy job unseating him. They'd have to join forces, sort of like the rotation that Labor and Likud tried in 1984 when Yitzchak Shamir and Shimon Peres took turns as Prime Minister. Yes, that's pretty hard to imagine, but the Shamir-Peres deal also seemed more like Political Science Fiction.

And what do you think?

Post- USA Elections, A New Middle East

Playbuzz
There's still a month until Donald Trump will, Gd willing, be inaugurated as President of the United States, but things are already changing. Obama had been hoping to inaugurate a State of Palestine, sic, during his presidency, but thank Gd it doesn't seem to be happening. His support support of the Muslim Brotherhood instead of allies like Egypt has alienated the more moderate Arabs.
ANALYSIS: UN saga shows sands shifting

Ties between the two countries were strained as a result of what Sisi viewed as Obama’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood, and because of Washington’s criticism of Sisi’s human rights record. With Trump, Sisi sees the possibility of turning a new page with Washington, and it is clear that following Trump’s statement on the UN resolution on Thursday – and likely messages he received from the Trump team – he realized this would not be the best way to begin afresh. (Jerusalem Post)
David Friedman, Donald Trump's adviser on Israel,
speaks to Channel 10 News on September 14, 2016.
(screen capture: Channel 2) Times of Israel
So, now we are beginning to see a truly New Middle East, nothing like the one that the late Shimon Peres kept trying to create. Trump's choice of David Friedman as American Ambassador to Israel can be best described as revolutionary. Never has there been anyone so pro-Jewish Rights in The Land of Israel in such a high position. Friedman's policies are diametrically opposed to those of Obama and the State Department.

The chances are that Egypt stopped the anti-settlement motion in the United Nations in its tracks in order to curry favor with Trump.
Trump Weighs In on Israeli Settlements While White House Stays Mum
The days of Obama are waning, which is something not only Israelis like myself are happy about. We will no doubt see more Arab leaders acting relieved to have someone who isn't a Radical Leftist in the White House. They hope for more support and stability from Donald Trump.

Let us see what the future brings, and Gd willing it will be good for the world.

The Divisive Legacy of Yitzchak Rabin

There's so much more behind the story of Yitzchak Rabin's assassination that the authorities and mainstream media are hiding. From the minute it was announced, innocent people like myself, who live in Shiloh and other communities in YESHA have been implicated.

Just this past week, the Jerusalem Post had a long feature article in its magazine Trying to understand Yigal Amir 21 years on by NATAN ODENHEIMER, which can only be accessed by people who pay for it.

I went over that article twice, once on Shabbat and just now to check out something very crucial in the story. All sorts of people are blamed with "inspiring" Yigal Amir to his extremism, but the one most important name of the most suspicious of them all was left out, Shabak agent provocateur Avishai Raviv, who had been assigned to work with youth, high school and university for about ten years. Yes, I know for a fact that he had been working with high school youth trying to activate them years before his job in Bar Ilan University. All during that time he used the same cover. He claimed that his army injuries gave him free university tuition plus living expenses and he was "volunteering" for idealistic reasons.

Please try to read it. If someone has a link to the actual article, I'd appreciate it in the comments, thanks.

Is Raviv mentioned? Nope!

If you do a check on what happened that night. Avishai Raviv was there and played a role, and it's no secret that he was also involved in all sorts of activist/anti-Oslo Accord groups, even directing a fake one for Israeli Television.

For the past twenty-one 21 years, the Left, the pro-Oslo and Shimon Peres worshipers have  been using the assignation, which is clothed in questions, as a tool to defame the Right and split the country. NRP Education Minister Naftali Bennett is correct in his complaints here:
Bennett: Stop using Rabin murder to silence the right
Something stinks for sure. This whole anti-Right atmosphere smells too much like the Left's response to the Arlosoroff murder decades ago. What? Aren't you familiar with the story? Most Israelis today aren't, which is why the Left needed a new cause/scandal they could pin on the Right. Food for thought...

Blame Shimon Peres for the Ofra-Amona Problem and More

Right after Shimon Peres died, and Israelis of the Right -Pro Jewish Rights in All of the Land of Israel- were looking for nice things to say about him, they credited him with his help in establishing the very first yishuv, Jewish community, in the Shomron, north of Jerusalem. But the truth is that his pushing for the location that is now Ofra was actually a way to sabotage the community, as I explained in my post,  The Utter Irony of Shiloh for a Relocated Amona.

imemc.org

Peres pushed for a location that had a building. Either he ignored the possible ownership of the land in question or he, like many in the government, didn't take the settler movement, Gush Emunim, seriously as a potential power.

None of the politicians of any party, even the Right, had a clue that within a few decades there would be hundreds of thousands of Jews in Judea/Samaria. And if the government would solve the legal issues and give building permits, there would be more than double the number.

This should not be in the hands of the Supreme Court. Prime Minister Netanyahu is wrong in leaving those Leftist ideology-driven judges to make law. The Government and Knesset are supposed to make the laws, not the Judicial branch.

In the half a century since the 1967 Six Days War we periodically hear politicians talking about annexing the Land we liberated in that war for survival, like Naftali Bennett right now. All international legal precedent is that a country that wins a war, especially a war for its very existence and survival, automatically annexes whatever land it finds in its possession. That's the way of the world.

And, yes, of course, Peres was part of the ruling team that decided Israel should do the very opposite. He and his ilk had this totally fokokt idea that the Arabs would be willing to live in peace in exchange for those "territories." This was a mistake, the infant of his "New Middle East" fantasy, which made him the darling of those trying to find a politically correct way of destroying the State of Israel.

Now, we are stuck with horrendous politicians running the country. Gd willing, someone will get the wisdom and guts to fix this mess.

Relieved That Shimon Peres in No Longer With The Living

photo I took of Shimon Peres
OK, for all those who kept telling me to wait until after the burial, or after Rosh Hashanah or after Yom Kippur for writing how I really feel about the death of Shimon Peres, here it is:

Yes, I'm relieved that Shimon Peres was taken by Gd before the beginning of the new Jewish Year 5777. Peres's death, stroke etc. is the sort that is totally a decision of Gd Almighty. The doctors did their best to give him a chance to live longer, and Gd gave him time to repent, if that was his desire. And even with a delayed goyishe-style funeral and placing the coffin in public display for the day before, it still left time for Peres to be buried before the end of 5776 and Rosh Hashanah 5777.

photo I took of Shimon Peres
For decades, Shimon Peres had been the world's most popular Israeli. When Yitzchak Rabin was assassinated, he got the accolades, but the Israeli whom the "world" really listened to was Peres. Peres was a master at "old world" charm, while Rabin was too much the Israeli sabra for that. Menachem Begin also had the "charm," but too many people feared his his politics. Remember that the international media, like the Israeli one, is extremely Leftist and elitist, so Shimon Peres talked their talk and walked their walk, while Menachem Begin unabashedly spoke of Jewish Rights and the wrongs done to the Jewish People.

I met both of them, and Begin's "old world" mannerisms, kissing women's hands and warm smile included caring eyes, while Peres's smile, voice and posture were very cold and calculating. I never felt that Peres cared, while I had no doubt that Menachem Begin sincerely felt for people. And just to make it clear, if you don't know, I stopped politically supporting Menachem Begin once he began his Camp David decision to give Egypt the Sinai and destroy the Jewish communities that had been built there.

Let's go back a generation to delve into Shimon Peres's international popularity. The key was his success in convincing then Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin to accept the Oslo Agreement, even though it was an illegal, immoral rogue operation without the support of the Israeli Government. Yes, instead of jailing the perpetrators led by Yossi Beilin who had secretly by their own initiative negotiated the dangerous deal, Shimon Peres got Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin to approve it.

It was via the Oslo Accords that Yasser Arafat was rescued from his exile, set up as Palestinian sic leader, and weapons were given to his so-called police. Basically, the terrorist Arafat was given a "state in the making," which has become the world's largest magnet for money and subsequent corruption, besides officially supporting terror against Israelis.

Ever since Shimon Peres's success in bamboozling Yitzchak Rabin, the world has treated Peres as Israel's most important and powerful politician, regardless of his official titles or lack of any. And when Peres held the officially non-policy position of President of Israel, he took advantage of it and spoke and acted as if he had political and policy powers.

Many of us here in Israel were extremely relieved when his term in office had officially ended. But his influence over the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the media, here and abroad, didn't end when he left office. Nothing stopped Peres from meeting diplomats, press and talking policy. And even now that he's buried, his fans use his name to try to convince Israel of what they want us to do. That's what American President Barack Hussein Obama did when he spoke at Peres's funeral. It doesn't bother any of them that in Israel's democratic process, Peres never succeeded in leading a political party to victory. There is no direct election of Prime Minister here; it was tried once, and when Likud's Binyamin Netanyahu was easily elected, the Leftists got the law repealed.

I hope I'm not overly optimistic when I say that I don't see Peres's popularity here in Israel growing after his death. Peres was popular with the Left, but he left the rest of us cold. Now it's time for him to try to negotiate with Gd about his true legacy. And we in the Land of the Living must do what is best for the Jewish People and not care about what the world thinks. That is the only way to keep our Eternal Light burning, Gd willing.

The Utter Irony of Shiloh for a Relocated Amona

Before I go any further, I'd like to make it super clear that I am 1,000% and more opposed to the destruction of any home in Amona, Migron or any other Jewish community. I also think that these Leftist nuisance cases against Jewish homes which magnify and distort possible Arab ownership of land based on vague hearsay should be thrown out of court.

Amona PR division
Amona is a lovely rural-like community next to Ofra. A few years ago, it underwent a horrendous trauma when the government destroyed nine homes, and in the process sent in riot police who brutally injured hundreds of protesters.

police brutality at Amona, 2006

Nobody wants to see this ever again, and nobody trusts the Israeli Government to do what's best for the Jewish People and the State of Israel.

One of Moshe Ya'alon's ideas before being booted out of the position of Defense Minister was to build a "new Amona" in Gush Shiloh (the Shiloh Bloq,) east of Shvut Rachel.

Why do I see this as ironic?

There's a little known fact in the history of the "settlement movement." Ofra is the most veteran Jewish community in the mountains north of Jerusalem. (Immediately after the Six Days War, the government established a number of agricultural moshavim in the Jordan Valley.) Ofra was established by Gush Emunim in spring, 1975 after finally getting approval from the government and support from Shimon Peres. But the location that group of pioneering families was forced to accept as their only chance, was not the one they originally wanted. They davka wanted to establish that first Jewish community in Shiloh! For historic and symbolic reasons, they considered Shiloh to be the obvious choice, because Shiloh was the first Capital of the Jewish People after Joshua led us into the Holy Land.

But Shimon Peres rejected Shiloh as a potential settlement site. Peres would only allow Jews to live where there was already a "proper building," an abandoned Mandate or Jordanian army barracks/police station, and the area which became Ofra had that. In Shiloh there were some old stone churches and a possible synagogue, but nothing "modern enough."

I think that Peres had thought that a location with a relatively modern building wouldn't require much effort/investment and then would be easier to disassemble, because he really didn't think the Jews would remain there very long. The Jewish demonstrators/settlers would live in tents and trailers aka caravans which were to be trucked in and then trucked out, or so he had hoped. The barracks would be the communal structure, so the "settlement" wouldn't cost much. Gush Emunim then searched Judea and Samaria for empty barracks around which to establish communities, according to Shimon Peres's instructions. And the early yishuvim did have such barracks.

Here we are over forty years later, and there's a massive presence of Jews living peacefully in Judea, Benjamin and Samaria. There would be even more if the government would approve the requested building plans.

The reason why the proposed location for the "new Amona" is near Shiloh and not near Ofra is because there is very little public state land in the Ofra area. Ofra is getting "full," and some of the most recent housing projects are in former orchards, which had been farmed by residents.

Davka, Shiloh, as had been explained to us in one of our earliest visits is between the two main Arab cities, Shechem and Ramallah, far from both. That means that there is a lot of state land availble for Jewish communities. So, if the families who had established that first community had been allowed to make it in Shiloh, things would have been so different. There would have been plenty of room for growth.
undo

But life isn't a computer game. We can't keep pressing "undo" to fix mistakes.

Amona wasn't a mistake, but the Israeli Government is making a mistake by trying to destroy it.

White House Insults State of Israel on Day of Shimon Peres Funeral

This outrageous anti-Israel behavior took place on the very day that Shimon Peres was buried:
White House corrects location of Jerusalem on day of Peres’ funeral
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/

Every American President in recent decades has promised to have the American Government officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel's Capital, but none have. It's just one of those lies they all say to get the "Jewish vote."

Israeli officials and American Jewry consistently ignore the fact that not only have successive American Governments called post-1967 Jerusalem neighborhoods "settlements," but they refuse to recognize American citizens born in Jerusalem as born in Jerusalem, Israel. Yes, as far as the American State Department and all the American Governments since 1948 are concerned, Jerusalem is supposed to be Arab internationalized. Basically, Jerusalem is supposed to be anything but Jewish-Israeli. And this hasn't changed one iota in the close to seventy years since the establishment of the State of Israel.

Now, the bottom line as far as I'm concerned is that American policy is not that of a friend or ally, and the State of Israel should stop fantasizing that it is.

"The Peace," "השלום" "HaShalom" of Shimon Peres

OK, I admit that I'm an oddball. I love grammar and the subtle differences and nuances a tiny word, or as in Hebrew one simple letter, can achieve or signify.

I've been bothered by the word/term "The Peace," "השלום" "HaShalom" for as many years as I've heard it. In terms of grammar, the exact, picayune meaning to my mind, is that it is somehow different from plain ordinary generic "Peace," "שלום" "Shalom." Am I incorrect about this?

MISLEADING FOOD LABELS
In all honesty, whether Right, Left or Center, nobody opposes true "Peace," "שלום" "Shalom." Our problem is that "the peace" we're being offered is no more genuine than "Fat Free Half and Half."

Peace, which shouldn't need a modifier, adjective or a definite article, because there should be no doubt as to what it refers to.
Peace is when one is not in danger from one's enemies, because there are no enemies.
  • A "ceasefire" is not peace.
  • Signing a piece of paper at a fancy ceremony does not produce peace.
  • A "treaty" with those who educate their children to murder you cannot be considered a Peace Treaty.
Believing that "The Peace," "השלום" "HaShalom" of Shimon Peres is a true Peace is like those who say that it is possible to cure cancer or AIDS with the power of one's mind, positive thinking.

I trust that Gd decided on the time of Peres's death in order to have us so busy with Shabbat and the Jewish Holidays, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Succot and Simchat Torah that the attention on his dangerous policies and ideology will be reduced.

GUEST POST: Shimon Peres never understood

Shimon Peres Never Understood
GUEST POST by Mr. Cohen

Shimon Peres (born 1923 CE, died 2016 CE) never understood that
Muslims have always hated Jews, and will always hate Jews forever,
because that is what their religion requires them to do.

Shimon Peres never understood that Muslims have always deceived
non-Muslims, and will always deceive non-Muslims forever,
because that is what their religion requires them to do.

Shimon Peres never understood that according to Islamic Religious
Law [sharia],  peace-treaties between Muslims and non-Muslims
are worthless, and should be violated as-soon-possible by
killing the non-Muslims that the peace-treaty was made with.

Shimon Peres never understood that Islam can NEVER
tolerate any Jewish state anywhere in the Middle East,
regardless of its size or the shape of its borders.

Shimon Peres never understood that Islam requires
that Jews must be constantly oppressed by Muslims
and trembling-in-fear before Muslims.

Shimon Peres never understood that Jews in controll
of their own land and their own army is offensive to Islam,
regardless of its size.

Shimon Peres never understood that Islam requires
that Jews must be only a little-bit-better than slaves.

Shimon Peres never understood that Muslims view
any compromise as humiliation, and humiliation
is the worst thing in Muslim or Arab culture.

Shimon Peres never understood that forgive-and-forget
is NOT part of Muslim culture, especially when
dealing with non-Muslims.

Shimon Peres never understood that
the Koran describes Jews as “apes and pigs”.

Shimon Peres tried to negotiate peace with Muslims,
but with zero understanding of Muslim beliefs.

The result: The Oslo Accords were a disaster for Israel,
and the severe troubles that Israel faces now were caused by it.

Found The Photo in Which I Appear With Shimon Peres, And Many Others

The special blogger's sessions at the Israeli Presidential Conference 2013 with Yossi Vardi and President Peres were amazing! This was the highlight.

Thanks to my friend  The Real Jerusalem Streets for finding the photo for me!

Nobody Lives Forever, Including Shimon Peres, 1923-2016

Love him or hate him, Shimon Peres couldn't be ignored, and most everyone, no matter what you thought of him, thought he'd live forever. Until a short time before his fatal stroke, he acted and moved like a much younger man. The last television clips showed his gait very stiff and halting, as if he was afraid he'd fall.

Yes, Shimon Peres is dead. He did not wake up from the coma. Last night reports were that his organs were beginning to fail, and at 93, his body wasn't all that strong.

Now he's fully in Gd's Hands. Gd will weigh whatever good Peres may have done with all the bad. And as it's just days before Rosh Hashanah quickly followed by Yom Kippur, I don't think it's my place or anyone else's to do the judging.

US VP Biden's Crooked Tunnel Vision

No surprise, but I'm really annoyed at the very selective condemnations of Arab terror coming out of American officials:
Biden condemns Jaffa terror attack upon arrival in Israel
At meeting with Peres a short distance from the stabbing, visiting US vice president expresses sorrow over death of American tourist murdered in the attack.
US Vice President Joe Biden meets with former Israeli president Shimon Peres at the Peres Center for Peace in Jaffa, March 8, 2016. (photo credit:ELAD MALKA)

Now, someone truly against terror in general aka a truly morally honest person, would condemn all of the Arab terror attacks against Jews, but it's obvious that the American Government, from POTUS Obama on down have no problem in principle with Arab attacking innocent Jews. They see them as noble "freedom fighters." And extreme Leftist Peres, so enamored with the attentions of the American Vice President, didn't think of asking Biden why he hadn't condemned all of the Arab terrorists who had been so busy attacking Jews on Tuesday to celebrate the visit.

Tuesday was one of those awful bloody days in which Arab terrorists went hyper keeping newshounds on the run from terror attack to terror attack.

When will Americans, and Europeans, international faux moralists and Israeli Leftists stop fantasizing that Abbas is a moderate capable of "making peace" sic with Israel?
Abbas’ Fatah Praises ‘Heroic Martyr’ Who Murdered U.S. Veteran

(CNSNews.com) – Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah organization on Wednesday praised as a “heroic martyr” the killer of West Point graduate and U.S. Army veteran Taylor Force, according to an Israel-based media monitoring group.
On its Facebook page, Fatah posted a sketch of a man’s hand holding a knife over a map of “Palestine,” Palestinian Media Watch reported. Across the map is written “Bashar Masalha,” the name of the 22 year-old Palestinian who stabbed Force and 11 others in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area on Tuesday.
Written on the arm of the person holding the knife in the sketch are the words, “the heroic martyr.”
They willfully misjudge him. The reason is simple. They really want the State of Israel to be destroyed. There can be no other reason. Abbas's Fatah has always been clear about its ultimate aim. I have no patience whatsoever for anyone in the world, especially Israelis and Jews who insist on lying to themselves about the true and unhidden agenda of the Arabs.

Rabin Conspiracy Theories, Realistic?

MARC ISRAEL SELLEM
From the very first news reports of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, many knowledgeable people felt that something was "off" in the reported story. Too many people to be ignored consider that the fact that Shabak agent Avishai Raviv's leadership in the Bar Ilan University student group of which Yigal Amir was a member strongly tainted the official story. I am among those who feel that there was some sort of Shabak led conspiracy during the Oslo period, which is being ignored by the mainstream media and public figures.

Avishai Raviv, credit
Avishai Raviv was an attractive, charismatic and well-financed figure who worked with Jewish high school youth, yishuvim and university students over a period of about ten years, from the mid-1980's to the Rabin assassination in 1995. Only after he left the field did the Bar Ilan students in the group realize that all their expenses had been completely covered and supported by Raviv.

It's a known fact that Rabin had been pushed or duped into accepting the Oslo Accords, an agreement of sorts, which had been negotiated by private individuals who had no legal right to commit as representatives of the State of Israel.
The process began in January 1993 in a meeting with two Israelis, Dr. Yair Hirschfeld and Dr. Ron Pundak, and Palestinian representatives headed by Ahmed Qurei, aka Abu Alaa. The contact between the groups was made through Norwegian mediators, who contacted Dr. MK Yossi Beilin. A short time later, Beilin was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and he officially acknowledged these talks, while depicting them as unofficial. Minister of Foreign Affairs Shimon Peres was updated by Beilin after the first meeting took place in January, and Peres informed Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in early February. (Knesset site)
If anything, those who initiated contact and committed Israel to these conditions should have had been charged with treason. But inexplicably, they were fully backed by Israel's Leftist leadership most prominently by Shimon Peres. By all reports Rabin hadn't a clue as to what had been taking place.

Yitzchak Rabin was a team player and didn't get to high office by shaking the boat. And talking about boats, it's a fact that he followed Ben-Gurion's orders to attack the Altalena soon after the Declaration of Independence.

Those who know the truth about the Rabin assassination have kept their silence. There are many questions that need answers, and I wonder if we will ever get them.

One of the worst results of the assassination, is that it has been used as justification to condemn, blame Israel's Right, the pro-Jewish Life in all of the Land of Israel. The hateful and untrue statements made annually and more frequently against the most patriotic of Israeli citizens is how Yitzchak Rabin's followers wish to promote his legacy. This lack of unity is the greatest tragedy of all for the State of Israel and the Jewish People.

I Sure Don't Envy Bibi Netanyahu!

Even though the Israelis voters spoke pretty clearly and do prefer Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for another term of office, giving his Likud Party many more seats than they gave Herzog-Livni's, assembling a coalition won't be easy for him. Besides Naftali Bennett who has made it clear that he firmly supports Netanyahu and hasn't leaked any demands, all of the other party leaders are making it clear that they aren't in Bibi's pocket and expect a hefty payment, meaning important cabinet position for them and most of their MK's.

Just a couple of years ago, Netanyahu invited Avigdor Lieberman's party, Yisrael Beitenu to run with Likud on a joint list, which ended up to the benefit of Lieberman and detriment to Likud. This year, on its own, Yisrael Beitenu has lost strength, but it still has the power to make or break a coalition. Lieberman is playing hard to get, insisting that although he's leading one one of the smallest parties in Knesset, he still deserves a "senior position."

All during the campaign my feeling was that the Likud could not count on former Likudnik Kahlon at all in terms of joining the coalition. He'd be like the classic "woman scorned," even though he was the one who left the ship. And now the rumor is that he's going to play Bennett's old role dragging in Lapid as a "third and very unwanted wheel" as a condition for his joining a Likud government.
"According to Israeli television, Kahlon will demand that Netanyahu also invite his rival and erstwhile finance minister Yair Lapid into the government." (Jerusalem Post)
Yair Lapid's total lack of loyalty and discipline was one of the reasons Netanyahu had to declare new elections. And it was also Lapid's rabidly anti-Chareidi conditions that Bibi accepted which seriously damaged Likud's relationship with the Chareidi parties. And Netanyahu needs those MKs to form a coalition.

Nothing here is going to be easy. Voting and counting the votes are long over. The results are clear. The Israeli electorate does not want a Herzog-Livni government, not even just Herzog. It wants to give Binyamin Netanyahu another term of office, but the political leaders, MKs elected last week mostly have their own egos as priority, not the good of the country nor the will of the people.

As I've written before, I predict instability, and I wonder if Netanyahu will succeed in this seemingly impossible task. If he doesn't, then Herzog will get a chance to form a government coalition. And no matter who finally succeeds I doubt that the government will last very long. There is also a possible scenario that no coalition will be formed, and we'll be voting again this coming summer.

And don't forget that the media's rumor mill has been talking of President Ruby Rivlin pushing Netanyahu and Herzog to come up with a "National Unity Government," like the one that had Shimon Peres and Yitzchak Shamir trading places in the Prime Minister's office.

What do you think?

Peres Finally Admits He Hasn't a Clue

Hat-tip Algemeiner

Former President Shimon Peres has made one tiny step to admit that his policies and opinions have been wrong. In a far-ranging interview on BBC (click to listen to the interview) he even blamed Hamas for the death of Gazan children by mentioning their human shields policy. But the headliner here is that Peres actually admitted that Disengagement was a serious mistake.

Here we are almost a decade later, and honestly this admission isn't strong enough. Peres speaking so softly and gently, you'd never know that there's an ideological bombshell in his answers, also admits not understanding the Gazan mentality. For me, that's the key to the problem.

Disney
A basis for the Israeli Left ideology is the incorrect presumption that the Arabs, yes even the terrorists, are really "just like us, with the same ideals and dreams for our children." They project their nature, culture, ideology on sociopathic, unrepentant blood-thirsty terrorists. You can't get more wrong than that. Picture Cinderella's mean and grotesque step-sisters trying to fit their giant feet into her dainty glass slipper.

But I'm not joking here.

It's very dangerous to misread/misinterpret your enemy and make apologies for them. Successive Israeli governments have been doing that very thing for generations, even before the establishment of the State of Israel. The official Zionist establishment has always had this dream of living in peace with the Arabs and never took seriously their statements and actions which have always shown their aims to stop and destroy us.

In less than two weeks we will begin the Jewish Month of Elul, a traditional time of Teshuva, Repentance. A few years ago I took Rabbi Reuven Grodner's Elul Teshuva course in Pardes. There are three basic stages to repentance as I remember:

  1. admission of sin
  2. regret
  3. doing the correct thing when in the same situation
Shimon Peres' admission isn't the full repentance required. I wonder if anyone on the Left is listening.

Peres and Herzog Totally Re-Writing History

Barely twenty-four hours after hearing Bassam Eid of Activists for Human Rights in the Palestinian Authority at the Israel Advocacy Seminar run by David Bedein, with the assistance of Gail Winston and the "Winston Israel News" in memory of her late husband Manny, I heard former President Shimon Peres and soon after him, Issak Herzog, head of the Israeli opposition and Leftist Labor Party leader on television spouting the exact opposite.

Now, what did Bassam Eid say?

Bassam Eid ended his talk saying that the Arabs of Gaza and the Arabs of the West Bank are not the same. They don't have the same customs, accent etc. The two groups shouldn't be considered as one.

And what did I hear from Peres and Herzog*?

They claim that Mahmoud Abbas should be ruling both "the west bank" and Gaza. Somehow Gaza was taken away from him.

There are a few very peculiar things here. One is that Bassam Eid is an Arab who calls himself a Palestinian, and he does not consider Gaza as part of the west bank/Palestine. If the Arabs really consider it all one "people," then I think that Eid would know and make the point. But his point is that Gazans are separate/different.  I wonder how many of you consider that rather interesting and can be proof of...  (Please comment if that makes you begin to wonder...)

*It's clear that Peres and Herzog's statements about Gaza being politically part of the "west bank" on the same day were no coincidence. When I was looking for a photo of the two of them, I found one that illustrated an article in the Jerusalem Post that stresses the close connection between the two men. It even calls Peres the "mentor" of Herzog. That doesn't surprise me especially considering what Herzog also said on television. Very much in the mold of Shimon Peres he did his best to undermine Prime Minister Netanyahu talking of how he would do a much better job running the war.

This war isn't yet over, and the Left has begun to campaign against the government.

Ruby Rivlin, Israel's Newest President, G-d Willing Will Unite Us

The Israeli position of President is different form what a "president" is in most countries. It's supposed to be ceremonial, a figurehead, not a policy maker.

Ruby (Reuven) Rivlin, who has spent decades in the public eye, as a descendant of the the Rivlin for whom Rivlin Street is named, as head of the Betar Jerusalem soccer team, politician, MK, is now the President of Israel.

Rivlin succeeds Shimon Peres who just couldn't take off his "politician hat." Peres is most popular with foreigners, especially Leftist office holders, media and diplomats.

Rivlin and Peres are very different. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that those who are happiest to see Peres go are the same ones who are happiest to see Rivlin in the office. To my mind Peres seemed to be more interested in impressing and pleasing foreigners than relating to ordinary Israelis. Rivlin is thought of a warm, friendly uncle, one of the family.

Especially now during a time of war, tension and stress, we do need a President who can unite us into one loving family.

Go for it Ruby!

I'm So Glad That Ruby Rivlin is Israel's New President and Not Shitrit

Reuters
Thank G-d! Ruby Rivlin got 63 Knesset votes, and Shitrit didn't make it.

Now in all honesty, I don't expect miracles from Ruby. The position of President of Israel was created to be ceremonial, to free the Prime Minister from time consuming photo shoots with ambassadors and all. I trust that Ruby will be charming and not try to stretch the job into being a faux Prime Minister.

Shimon Peres tried to stretch stretched the position, because he really wanted to be Prime Minister and make policy to undermine Bibi Netanyahu. I had/have no doubt that if Meir Shitrit had been elected he would have attempted to continue Peres's precedent.

So let's wish Ruby Rivlin, Israel's newest President a long, healthy and productive life.

The Pope's Peace Proposal, Innocent Double Faux Pas or Insidious Subterfuge Against The State of Israel?

Food for Thought...

The pope's suggestion that he host a peace prayer with Mahmoud Abbas, "the president of the State of Palestine" sic and Shimon Peres, the President of the State of Israel sounds so "innocent" and logical if you're an ignoramus and don't know that de jure neither men are heads of state.

  1. Mahmoud Abbas is president of what is known as the Palestinian Authority. Unfortunately many states and international organizations act as if there is a Palestinian State, and even worse is that the Israeli Government has been willing to negotiate the establishment of such a state. This would be done by driving Jews out of their homes, destroying Jewish communities and making large portions of our historic Biblical Jewish Homeland juderein. All Abbas has to do is recognize the right for the State of Israel to exist as a Jewish State and declare that he wants to live beside it in peace. He has refused.
  2. Shimon Peres is the Israeli President, but that position is not an executive position. He has no legal authority to invoke policy, propose laws or negotiate. He is a figurehead, with less legal power than the Queen of England.
By proposing that Shimon Peres represent Israel in a "peace prayer" with Abbas the pope has publicly insulted the Prime Minister of Israel and the entire Israeli Government.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will join Pope Francis in a prayer for peace at the Vatican.
The prayer will take place on June 8, Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi confirmed Thursday, according to Vatican Radio.
The pope made the invitation following the celebration of Mass in Manger Square in Bethlehem during his visit last week to the Palestinian West Bank city. A rabbi and a Muslim imam will be present at the service, the pope reportedly said.
In his invitation, the pope said, “I offer my home in the Vatican as a place for this encounter of prayer.  …  All of us want peace. Many people build it day by day through small gestures and acts; many of them are suffering, yet patiently persevere in their efforts to be peacemakers.”

I have trouble believing that this was an innocent mistake. This was done to undermine the authority of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his legitimate legally elected government.
