Guest Post: Why Pray for the IDF

Why Pray for the IDF? by Mr. Cohen, 2016 March 28

Rabbi Chaim Shmulevitz of the Mirrer Yeshivah (born 1902 CE, died 1979 CE) used to ask every year during Neilah that people daven for the soldiers of the army of Israel.

Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik (born 1903 CE, died 1993 CE) once referred to an oil-stained, grime-covered Israeli Army uniform as “bigdei kodesh” – holy garments.

Rabbi Avigdor Miller (a popular Chareidi Rabbi and author, born 1908 CE, died 2001 CE) delivered a free public lecture in the last year of his life, in which he said we should pray for the Israeli Army: “If they are defending us, then we should pray for them.”

Rabbi Lazer Brody (a contemporary Breslov Rabbi) taught:HaShem should protect the soldiers and the police… we have to express our thanks to every Israeli soldier and police-man…”

According to an article published by Matzav on 2014 July 18, the following prominent Orthodox Rabbis were praying for the IDF (Israeli Army) at that time:

Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, the Vizhnitzer Rebbe, the Sadigura Rebbe, and Rabbi Shalom Cohen (Rosh Yeshivat Porat Yosef)
According to Halachah, how is it possible to pray for the IDF /Tzahal/ Israeli Army, up to 7 days each week, and up to 3 times every day?

Ask Mr. Cohen for instructions by sending an email with PRAY FOR IDF in the subject line to: FourCupsOfWine@gmail.com.

You will receive a free PDF file, attached to an email, showing you exactly how to do this.
I might be wrong about this, but I suspect that Jews who teach hate against the Israeli Army, especially those Jews who live in Israel, are guilty of:

[1] being poresh min hatzibbur [separating from the Jewish community]

[2] lacking hakarat hatov [gratitude to those who help you]

[3] repaying good with evil (see Mishlei/Proverbs, chapter 17, verse 13)

[4] failing to judge their fellow Jews favorably (Avot, chapter 1, paragraph 6)

[5] failing to share communal burdens (Avot, chapter 6, paragraph 6) נוֹשֵׂא בְעֹל עִם חֲבֵרוֹ

[6] relying on miracles (tractate Pesachim, page 64B) for national defense

“One [New York] Times opinion editor, Matt Seaton, even admitted last year [2014 CE] that the newspaper has a policy of veering away from criticism of Palestinians.”

Final sentence of article titled: “New York Times Editor: Coverage of Israel Most Criticized Aspect of Opinion Pages” by Shiryn Ghermezian, 2015 October 14, found in: The Algemeiner.
Like all things Islamic, the Palestinians long-been have been officially above criticism in the West…”

Pat Condell is an atheist, who was born in Ireland around 1950 CE, and raised in England as a Roman Catholic, and educated in Church of England schools. He has no Jewish ancestors and no religious beliefs that might cause him to favor Jews.

Thanks for the reminder. B'ezrat Hashem our prayers will not only keep the soldiers safe but add wisdom to them and their commanders.

There is no question that all of the soldiers are kedoshim for their efforts in keeping yishuv Eretz Yisrael a reality. I am prepared to admit my low worth compared to theirs. But there are those who can't so they twist reality to make it seem that THEY are the real soldiers. There's pills for them.
