My Really Dumb Question About That "Wall"

I may have gotten this all mixed up, but I have a question to those who don't want the American Government to construct a wall to keep out illegal immigrants.

Maybe I'm just stupidly simplistic, but if I understand those against the "wall" correctly, they think that anyone who wants to move/migrate to the United States should be able to, whenever they want, without being forced to go through the legal, bureaucratic procedures. If I understand correctly, those against the "wall" consider what they call "migrating" as a human right.

So if "migrating" shouldn't be a difficult hassle, then why should there be border control anyplace? Why should tourists, who just come to spend money, enrich the American economy have to worry about visas, passports and entrance laws? And what if some of those tourists decide to stay in America, shouldn't they be welcomed with open arms and allowed to live in the USA without fear of being deported? What makes the hispanics coming from the south of the border be more desirable as "new Americans," than those who fly in, or enter any other way?

Just curious. Did I misunderstand something? Or am I just stupid?

American Left Causing Its Own Problems

This isn't the United States I knew.

This isn't the United States where I was educated.

This isn't the United States where I was taught the basic principles of democracy. 

Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose.

In recent years something very frightening has happened in the United States. The Left has recovered from McCarthyism, the heat of the Cold War, when they had been under attack, losing jobs, jailed. Now they are fighting basic American values, and many ordinary Americans are scared. They insist that they own morality. They don't accept that there are other opinions.

That's why Donald Trump was elected. Ordinary Americans couldn't trust the politicians, not just the Leftist Democrats. They couldn't relate to the Republican politicians either. So, in the primaries they chose the outsider, the one who said what they were thinking. They chose the man whom the establishment hated. They elected Donald Trump, the most unlikely POTUS ever.

The Left's reaction to Trump's election went against all precedent. The American Left rioted and screamed and schemed and threatened. They haven't been behaving as law-abiding, liberal democratic citizens.

I'm glad that I don't live in the United States of America. Considering what's going on in American universities, things will only get worse.

How Was Donald Trump Elected to the US Presidency?

First I'd like to make it clear that this isn't an article supporting Donald Trump as a person. I admit that he's certainly one of the least attractive and certainly one of the most problematic US Presidents ever elected. But Donald Trump was elected, because the Democrats put up a candidate, Hillary Clinton, with more faults and less charisma.

How Was Donald Trump Elected to the US Presidency?

1. Trump was elected legally, according to American Law
2. Trump was nominated because now there's a primary system, rather than allowing the politicians to wheel and deal.
3. Many Americans were completely turned off by Democratic policies and so-called "successes" of the Obama administration.
4. Hillary Clinton insulted many voters.
5. The Democratic Party has moved to the Extreme Left. 
6. Many Americans feel under attack by the Left/Democrats.
7. Donald Trump made many Americans feel more confident in the future. 

These are my observations from abroad. I've been living in Israel for almost half a century. In all honesty, I'm not only glad that we made the move right after our wedding, but I'm sure that if we hadn't done it then, we, too could have been sucked into American Jewish life.

As Israelis who've lived in Shiloh thirty-seven years, we had no problem seeing the growing antagonism from the United States. The anti-Israel policies that had formerly come mainly from the State Department, has now spread to almost all parts of America, academia, the Democratic Party, the media and hollywood. Please don't forget that Obama ended his presidency with a strong attack on Israel in the United Nations. 

All we in Israel have left in "our camp" are some committed Jews, mostly Orthodox, but not all, middle America and the Evangelicals. Coincidently, they are the same Americans, on the whole, who voted for Donald Trump.

• They are the ones who just can't forget how Hillary Clinton as FLOTUS kissed Suha Arafat after a hateful, lie-filled anti-Israel speech. 
• They are the ones who aren't overjoyed at the legality of same-sex marriage being legalized, one of the great accomplishments of the Obama administration.
• They are the ones who prefer to check the policies and platform of a presidential candidate, rather than the sex or race. 
• They are the ones who don't want how-to sex education for young children.
• They are the ones whose children serve in the US Military and Police Forces.
• They are the ones who don't think that a person's sex can be changed by surgery and hormones. 
• They are the ones who believe in absolute values and rules.
• They are the ones who fear that their country has been hijacked by radical extremists who not only rioted when they didn't like the 2016 Presidential Election results, but have made it difficult for others to voice opinions.

From my vantage point halfway around the world, I see the United States losing basic democratic values. The media and academia are preferring to voice and accept only one opinion.

There have been headlines and articles all over the media about how "American Jewry" doesn't approve of Israeli politics and policies.

1. Should we care?
2. How do they, the pollsters and writers define "American Jewry?"

Let's make it very clear that the State of Israel was established despite the feelings and policies of American and other diaspora Jews. We, here in Israel, don't owe them anything! Nor do we owe any thanks or loyalty to foreign countries and NGOs which did nothing more than pay a bit of "lip service" to "approve" the establishment of a Jewish State.

After the historic United Nations vote, November 29, 1947, the "yeas" collectively sat on their respective hands and waited for the Arabs to defeat and destroy the "Zionist entity." They were either the same national leaders or diplomats who did nothing to stop the Nazis' systematic destruction of European Jewry.

The State of Israel is alone and treated to a different standard from any other country. 

Only the State of Israel has its chosen Capital City snubbed and vetoed by international bodies and foreign countries. This was very recently changed when USA President Donald Trump bucked the crowds and stated that the State of Israel, like all other countries in the world, has every right to choose its Capital City. This is davka something that many candidates, both winners and losers, for the US Presidency claimed when campaigning, but they quickly reneged post-elections. You'd think that American Jewry would be cheering Trump's policy, but they, the majority, won't support anything Trump does, even if previously they had been in favor.

So, in all honesty, I don't consider the majority of American Jewry honest brokers or truly pro-Israel. 

And about my second question. That will have to be answered in a different post. You can already respond to it in your comments.

There's No Equality/Objectivity in The Media

Israel's attacked and it's ignored by the international media and do-gooders.
Israel defends itself, and the international media and do-gooders condemn it.
Someone from the American Right (Roseanne, a Trump supporter) says something stupidly racist on twitter, and she loses her job.
Someone from the American Left (Samantha Bee) uses totally filthy language against Ivanka Trump in a scripted show, and the show can go on.

U.S. Embassy Move to Jerusalem, Just a Headline?

When American President Donald Trump announced his historic recognition of Jerusalem as Capital of the State of Israel and Israel's right o choose its own capital city, he was very vague about the moving of the embassy.  Blunt-talking Trump was uncharacteristically politician-like in the matter.

The other day, we heard from Bibi that the historic move would be this year. Technically, since the United States has a sparkling new large consulate in Jerusalem, the official status of that building with the Tel Aviv embassy can just be switched. Some staff would be reassigned, and the maintenance staff would switch signs. Israel is a tiny enough country for the workers to be able to commute easily.

Now, we hear from the news, that it will take three years for the move. And we all know that there's a big question about who will be the winner of the 2020 USA Presidential Elections. There's another question. Is the delay and tactic by the antisemitic, anti-Israel State Department to sabotage Trump's policy? That's very possible.

Crazy Dangerous World, Appeasement Won't Help

I'm not the one to make predictions, but I do read/know history. It takes many years to develop and build bombs. So, don't blame Trump. North Korea has been a dangerous totalitarian regime for many years. So, don't blame Trump.

If anything could have been done to get Kim out, it had to have been done under Obama or even earlier. So, don't blame Trump. Appeasement never helps.

And the anti-Vietnam War Movement made such a move by America impossible.

International Bullying Versus Israel and Trump

Contrary to what the pundits, media, diplomats and others are claiming, the only bullying going on is by them against the State of Israel.

"This decision is an outrageous assault to all universal values," Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said. "This is bullying," he said of the US approach. "We will not be intimated." And addressing the US directly, he added, "you can be strong, but this doesn't make you right." CNN

I missed being able to film a really hypocritical irony on CNN last night, when some blond woman being interviewed by the guy with the rough voice -and I would greatly appreciate if someone finds it, please post in comments- defended the countries voting against Trump/Israel by saying that every country has the right to do what it feels is in its best interests.

Nu? So, doesn't Israel have the right to do what it feels is in its best interest, such as declaring our eternal Jewish Capital City, Jerusalem, as official Capital of the State of Israel?

Besides that, with all the evil violence going on all over the world, all the United Nations can do is to condemn the legally elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, for supporting the State of Israel's legal right to decide its own Capital City. Duh?

Jews and other good well-meaning people from all over the political spectrum should really take a good look at what is going on in the world. This focus on condemning Israel and anyone who does more than just claim to support Israel's rights as a sovereign nation proves how the world is against us.

Read the list of countries that voted against Israel's right to chose its capital city and condemned the only state head who has supported that right with more than just empty words during a political campaign should be a wake-up call for you.

I'm being pragmatic and rational.

Don't fear joining us, because the world will only be getting more dangerous, since this vote is facilitating, making excuses for and supporting international terror.

With all his obvious imperfections, give credit to Donald Trump for doing what others have promised to do. I guess that's why he was elected. The antisemites and anti-Israelis, including many countries like Great Britain which have claimed to be Israel's allies, have now shown their true hatred of Jewish rights, history and Israeli sovereignty.

I'd rather go forward with the knowledge this vote has revealed than to live in a dangerous fantasy filled "dreamland."

USA Recognition of Jerusalem as Capital of Israel IS IMPORTANT

We do have a right to be impatient about getting the Americans to move its embassy to Jerusalem, but it is a "sticky point" that they have yet to recognize the ancient holy city as Israel's capital. Of course, we'd like the whole package, special "same day" delivery. And we'd like it yesterday.

Too many people were overly optimistic since Trump's Jewish advisors aren't of the JStreet variety, but unfortunately the power of the State Department had been forgotten among the cheers and partying when Trump was elected President. And nobody could have predicted how strong the attacks would be on him for having the audacity to win. Never in the history of the USA was there such a fascist and antidemocratic movement as the "not my president." They deny the legitimacy of legal democratic rule.

Because of all the attacks and opposition, I doubt that Trump will ever get his platform activated. Remember that the "not my president" crowd is also strongly in favor of a new country called Palestine, sic, which would have its capital in Jerusalem.

Step one to move the American Embassy to Jerusalem would require recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and so far it hasn't happened. Gd willing it will. Is anyone taking bets? What are the odds?

BBC-TV News Rampaging vs Trump for Months

Something really awful has taken over the editorial staff of BBC-TV News. We've been watching the international station that we can get on our television for years, and although I've never been happy with its attitude/policy towards Israel, it generally stayed pretty clear of showing any great interest in most other national politics. The same goes for its radio news that we had listened to for decades.

As I remember, considering that this is the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, is that the only country's internal politics considered important is British. That's what is to be expected, and I have no doubt that british citizens who live all over the world count on BBC to tell them what they won't get on their local news stations. But ever since Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, they have regular gig chronicling his presidency, always showing him in the worst way possible.

They began by calling it something like "First Hundred Days," I'll edit in the exact name of the program when I can. And  since apparently it has proven popular, they now say one one days plus.

In all the decades I've watched BBC News, including the two years we lived in London, I don't remember anything so negative about an American President. I think they were nicer about Imelda Marcos and certainly never had a special regular gig about any foreign leader. This anti-Trump campaign, and it is a campaign, is the worst type of editorializing there can be on a news station. And editorializing against a legally elected leader of an ally most definitely goes against the official principles of the BBC.

Ironically, they've been showing an "advertisement" for themselves which claims that they never give opinions. It is such an outrageous lie. You'd think -or is it possible?- that Hillary Clinton's speechwriter now works for the BBC!

We're very limited in the news stations we get via the "dish" we have. I can't take it anymore and hope the technician can set us up with a better variety.
