Wednesday, soon before Passover, 5780, 2020, began, there was a lovely, traditional "Model Seder" on Israel's Channel 11. Various entertainers, plus Israel's President Ruby Rivlin "beamed in" participated in a national Pesach Seder.

It's in times like this when we're reminded that Israel is the only Jewish country in the world. Granted that it's too easy to complain; people sure do.

I was going to blog about politics. But in these difficult corona, COVID-19, times, I really think it's better to write about something good and encouraging. In addition, when Prime Minister Binyamin Bibi Netanyahu explained the corona lock-down restrictions, he related them to the Passover holiday and family observances.

Let's look at the good and our blessings. One thing for sure, modern technology has made these restrictions much easier to bear. What do you think?

In recent years, Jewish Feminists have claimed that
Vashti, the wife of King Achashverosh from the
Biblical Book of Esther, was a Feminist hero or role model. 

 

This claim can be refuted with knowledge of Torah.

Why Vashti was evil [quick summary in time order]:

======================================
(1) Targum Yonatan on Esther, chapter 1, verse 9,
translates “Queen Vashti” [וַשְׁתִּי הַמַּלְכָּה] into Aramaic
as “Vashti the evil Queen” [ושתי מלכתא רשיעתא].

(2) Vashti deserved punishment because she forced

Jewish women to work on Shabbat [while naked]

(Pirkei DeRabbi Eliezer, chapter 48 and also

Babylonian Talmud, tractate Megillah, page 12B).

(3) Vashti did not come [when she was summoned

by her husband, King Achashverosh], only because

she was suddenly struck with leprosy
(Babylonian Talmud, tractate Megillah, page 12B).

(4) Vashti is the ONLY woman who is explicitly

identified as an evil woman [ושתי הרשעה] by the Talmud

(Babylonian Talmud, tractate Megillah, page 12B).
 

Even the wives of Esau and the wife of Lot were

never explicitly labeled as evil women by the Talmud. 
 

Even Zeresh, the wife of Haman [וַיְסַפֵּר הָמָן לְזֶרֶשׁ אִשְׁתּוֹ],

from the Book of Esther, chapter 6, verse 13, was never

explicitly labeled as an evil woman by the Talmud.

(5) Vashti’s reign was a fulfillment of the curse of

the Biblical Prophet Isaiah (chapter 3, verse 12):
“As for My people, their rulers are mockers,
AND WOMEN WILL RULE OVER THEM…”
(Midrash Rabah, Book of Esther, chapter 3, paragraph 2).

(6) Vashti was one of four women who held power

in the world and oppressed the Jewish people
(Midrash Rabah, Esther, chapter 3, end of paragraph 2).

(7) Vashti desecrated the sacred garments of
the Jewish High Priest (Midrash Rabah on the

Biblical Book of Esther, chapter 3, paragraph 9).

(8) Vashti influenced King Achashverosh to

stop the reconstruction of the Jewish Temple

in Jerusalem (Midrash Rabah on the Biblical

Book of Esther, chapter 5, paragraph 2).

(9) Rashi’s commentary on Esther, chapter 2, verse 1,

teaches that King Achashverosh regretted killing Vashti

because of her beauty – [which suggests that Vashti’s

physical beauty was her only positive attribute.]

(10) Yalkut Meam Loez commentary on Esther,
chapter 1, verse 9, (based on earlier sources):
Vashti wanted to tempt the Jews to commit sexual
misdeeds, so they would be unworthy of rebuilding
the Temple in Jerusalem, that her grandfather,
Nebuchadnezzar, had destroyed.

(11) Yalkut Meam Loez commentary on Esther,

chapter 1, verse 11, (based on earlier sources):

Vashti wanted to the Jews to forget Shabbat,

so they would no longer have hope for redemption

and rebuilding the Temple in Jerusalem,

(12) Esther is mentioned 55 times in the entire Book of Esther.
Esther is mentioned in every chapter except for
the first chapter and the very short last chapter or 10th chapter.
Vashti is mentioned 7 times in the first chapter of the Book of Esther,
and 3 times in the second chapter, but never after the second chapter.

CONCLUSION:
 

Vashti was: NOT a hero, and NOT a Feminist, and NOT righteous.

Vashti does NOT deserve the admiration of any person.

Claiming that Vashti was hero of the Book of Esther
is like claiming that Eva Braun was hero of World War II.
Eva Braun was the girlfriend of Adolph Hitler [yemach shemo].

Modern Jews Descended from Biblical Jews* (Completed)

Apparently, I either erased the ending of this post or never finished writing it before originally posting. Now, it's complete. Sorry for the mess.

One of the simplest proofs that today's Jews are the direct descendants of Biblical Jews can be found in the language of the Bible, the text, narrative and lettering.

Even at the peak of the great two thousand 2,000 year exile, Jewish People and communities were discovered all over the world, India, Europe, Africa all reading from the same scrolls, following the same holidays and rituals, telling the same historic narrative and yearning to return to the very same Jerusalem.

It's that simple to say and easy to prove.

Yesterday I was in the Israel Museum and its Shrine of the Book for the umpteenth time, this time with visitors from afar. At the Shrine of the Book, it was explained to them that the text on these very ancient Dead Sea Scrolls only found in 1947 is identical to the Bible, the Torah Scrolls read by Jews all over the world even today.

Not only are Torah Scrolls exhibited in museums, but they are read from and copied by Jews all over the world. They are the source of the Jewish Religion and also studied by Jews of all ages all over the world. There never was a time in our history when we didn't study the Bible, the first five books, which are the Torah and the rest of the books with make up the Tanach, Torah, Navi (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings.)

The very same texts were found studied by Jewish People in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. We Jews are the same People who observe the same religion. There are slight differences in customs and interpretations of the Torah Law, but the similarities are extraordinary. No other religion or people have a longer history. We Jews are the People of the Bible in every sense of the word. Of course, since we had been exiled thousands of years before the modern return, we do look a bit different from each other. When in exile, there were converts to joined us, and two to three thousands of years do have an affect as many people joined us in the belief that Judaism is the only true religion. But we worship the same Gd in the same language and celebrate the same Holidays.

Just to remind you that both Christianity and Islam were invented/established long after Judaism, and their primary aim is to replace us, Gd forbid.
