I'm Being Targeted

Apparently someone is targeting my old posts here, when I had commented on facts, news reports of Arab terrorism. Then they report them to Blogger as going against "community guidelines", and the blogger police automatically "unpublish" the posts. Each time I discover this, I contest it. The first was republished. I'm waiting to see what happens with the most recent ones.

Apparently Blogger doesn't read the posts carefully before unpublishing.

Does anyone else have these problems?

Where's Blogger going?

Yes, Things are a Mess Here

Blogger is having some sort of age crises and has decided to make major changes. The graphics/layout that has kept me happy for years has gone demented or to the "next world." I've just wasted tons of time trying to restore it all, but for nought. AKA yes, I've failed.

At the present this is the best I can do.

BLOGGERS WE MUST UNITE IN PROTEST

I don't have any more patience for this. It's just a "blog," not major heath, life/death whatever.

No real surprise that they've chosen a time when we're masked, almost gagged.

Gd willing, I'll soon be laughing about it. Yes, this blogger mess should be my biggest problem.

What's New in The Jewish Blog World? 1st Roundup of 5780

Once upon a time there was a weekly Jewish Blog Carnival, Havel Havelim, which featured the latest blog posts from a great variety of Jewish and Israeli blogs. It was hosted by the various bloggers and had a nice international following. If you click on these old HH's and then check out the posts, you'll discover that many of the blogs have been discontinued. Some are still online, but others can't be found at all. My blogs are among the very few old time blogs still being updated, though not daily. Until a few months ago, I blogged on both blogs daily even when it required writing in advance and having the post go up automatically on a later day. But as of late I've become an occasional blogger. Sometimes I think I've said it all, just too many times.

One of the great bonuses of blogging way back when was the community we established. Even though we were in different cities and countries, we became friends. And in some cases our friendships escaped the "confines" of the internet. Yes, quite a few of us have met in person.

According to Oscar Wilde:
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.
I'm amused and saddened by the fact that all sorts of mainstream journalism, newspapers, news sites etc, have convinced people to "blog" for them. Even I have arrangements with a few, but my condition is always that I can post from my blogs, including the link. All of this free writing has made it much more difficult for people to earn a living as freelance writers.

Back to what I call "independent blogs," there's still blogging going on. And now I occasionally post a blog "carnival" or "roundup" of blog posts. To spark curiosity, I just give a list of titles in no particular order, not mentioning the names of the blogs. Click, read, comment and share. Also, if you have any blogs to recommend, please let me know in the comments. I'd also like to know which blog post you enjoy the most. Of course, I'm not responsible for any opinions in the posts, besides what I've written of course.

Now, it's time to enjoy.

"Indian Summer" Israeli/Jewish Blog Roundup

Once upon a time, there was a weekly Israeli/Jewish Blog Roundup called Havel Havelim... And for a shorter time there were monthly  JPIX and the Kosher Cooking Carnival. This was all during the heyday of independent blogging, when people all over the world took advantage of the internet to establish our own brand of journalism.

Our roundups aka "blog carnivals" floated from blog to blog. We took turns, since in those days hosting would bring new readers and fans. And the custom was also for the bloggers included in the roundup/carnival to mention the blog carnival in their own blogs. We were a community.

Mainstream newspapers and magazines noticed the unpaid talent free for the taking and added "blogs" to their internet versions. So, many people, including bloggers, became voluntary op-ed writers for those commercial publications.

Over the years, independent blogging has become less popular, though many people still blog, and blogs are used as inexpensive internet sites for services and advertising.

As you must know, since you're reading this, I do still blog. Actually I blog on two independent blogs, this one and A Jewish Grandmother, and occasionally on the Arutz 7 site. It's also possible that that the Jewish Press sometimes uses my posts in their blog section.

I blog pretty frequently, though not as obsessively, one on each blog daily, as I used to blog. In those days I'd set up articles to be posted on my blogs on days I wasn't to be home. Most bloggers blog no more than once a week or even less frequently.

After this long introduction, I'm going to list the titles (embedded with links of course) of a number of interesting blog posts. A few will be from my own blogs, but the vast majority are from other blogs. Please visit, comment and share. I hope that you enjoy them, find them thought provoking etc. And of course, I'm not responsible for the opinions of others.

Good News for Blogspot Bloggers!

After a break of many months or longer, we can now again receive notification of comments on our blogs.

I don't know why they stopped sending us the letters, but I'm very happy that blogger has resumed the service.

To get notifications of comments the blogger must check the relevant section of the "set up" page. And if you used to get the notifications and now don't, you should have gotten a letter from blogger asking you to click that you want them resumed. If you haven't received the letter, it may be in spam. Check there, and/or do a search in your mail program for comments.

Happy blogging.

Carnival Time, Late Summer Blog Roundup

from the good old days
Make Blogging Great, Again
I was debating on whether or not to call this a "Pre-Rosh Hashanah Blog Roundup" or not. And I decided on the "not," because later next week other bloggers may end up blogging some gevaldig posts to prepare ourselves for the Jewish New Year, so I'll then be able to do a pre-holiday roundup. Besides that,  for me today really is "late summer," since it's the last day of the season for our local Shiloh Swimming Pool. Three months of convenient swimming just aren't enough, sigh.

Please read, comment and share, of course. You know, the usual routine. We bloggers really appreciate your feedback, thanks. And if you know of any blogs to recommend, please send the link in the comments here, thanks.

Please take note that I am not responsible for the content of blogs I don't write. If you have complaints or praise then, please refer to the blogs themselves, thanks.

Enjoy!

Deja Vu, Why This Blog has Quieted Down

אין חדש
Nothing's new
Kohelet, Ecclesiastes, is 100% correct.
Rivers run into the seas.
There's a time for everything.

Should we be surprised that The European Union supports the Arabs, the Arab terrorists over Israel?
No. Don' t you remember their quiet as European Jewry was exterminated? Genocide? The Holocaust? And centuries before the Inquisition and how until well into the 19th Century Jews weren't allowed to live freely as Jews in most countries there.

And don't ignore that a requirement for political success is an oversized ego, which has its problems when it comes to honesty, etc.

I've written about all that. Recently, I feel that I'm writing the same articles, with a change in name or date.

So, I'll still write on occasion, when I find something worth writing about or when I'm in the mood. Today I'm not in the mood, not at all.

I've been keeping up with my other blog, A Jewish Grandmother, so please read that.

Post- Passover Blog Round Up

Since many Jewish and Israeli bloggers have woken from their Passover hibernation, there are some interesting blog posts out there in the cyber world of Jewish blogging. Visit, enjoy, comment and share.

There's no real order to this, and I'm just posting blog post titles, without indicating which blogs they come from. And I didn't even count how many posts there are. Enjoy...

WHY THIS PESACH WAS DIFFERENT FROM ALL OTHERS….
Commandments
Pishers' Guide to Jerusalem #28, Machane Yehuda WC, Fright at First Sight

the sale of chametz has to be taken seriously

Gush Shiloh, Grape-Growing Center of World
Raising Quirky Kids
Sewing the Seeds of Love
Synagogues in the Hotel Area of Jerusalem

Whoever says that blogging is a dead art/sport/social media format is 100% wrong. The only thing that has gotten weaker is the feeling of community we once had. That's a shame, and that's why I continue with these periodic roundups.

PS I'm always interested in meeting new blogs, so if you have any to recommend, please let me know in the comments, thanks.

What's New in The Blogging World

OK, maybe I should really title this "What's New in The Jewish/Israeli Blogging World"

Periodically I like to post a roundup of blog posts from all over the Jewish/Israeli blog world, and today's the day. If you'd like to recommend more blogs that fit the bill, then please comment with the links. And as usual, I'll be listing blog post titles, which I hope will whet your appetite to read them. Comment and share, of course. The order isn't a ranking, just arbitrary.

Enjoy! Please remember that the material and opinion in the posts written by others are not mine. I don't take responsibility for their mistakes or what they've written. Please let them know what you think, thanks.

Interesting Posts from Blogs Near and Far aka "Havel Havelim"

Once upon a time there was a weekly roundup of Jewish blog posts called Havel Havelim. It was a great way to read a variety of blogs, and I made quite a few friends both real and virtual that way. But many of the bloggers have ceased to blog, and most mainstream internet media have added "blogs" to their Opinion pages. In some cases, it's just another way to get people to write for free, but that's another story.

I tried to continue Havel Havelim on my own, but on my blogs, it just didn't generate enough "excitement," meaning readership. Now there's an actual "blogger site," called Israel Blogger, where I and some other bloggers post articles. It's a lot more professional than any of us could really do on our own. Consider it a real/professional online Israeli magazine, and ignore the fact that the writing is done by bloggers. Most of us are professional writers to be honest.

You may not know this, but there are still some fantastic bloggers who are blogging only on their own blogs. Some blog very infrequently, but their posts are worth waiting for. And there are still a few of us who blog a few times a week. I'm going to list titles of some interesting blog posts that have appeared recently and hope that you read, comment and share. Enjoy!

They are back! *I May Stop Blogging on Arutz 7 and Other Blogging News

I'm one of the most veteran bloggers on Arutz 7. And I've probably blogged more posts/articles there than anyone else. And until a short while ago, when they used to feature the six most popular blog posts and at least two and even four were usually mine.

From the time Arutz 7 started their "bloggers column," they had always featured it on the main page of the site. That made it easy for readers to know that we bloggers exist. Even until very recently, when I'd meet people the first time, they'd say that they read my articles on Arutz 7. I remember way back when, accompanying a couple of Nefesh B'Nefesh flights as a journalist, olim told me that they knew me from my Arutz 7 blog.

But that is no more. Arutz 7 has changed more than the graphics on its site. First I noticed that clicking "Blog tag" no longer gave you the "top six" blog posts. And now you can't even find blog posts on the main page of Arutz 7. You have to click either the tab in the upper menu banner or at the very bottom.

You should know that we bloggers do not get paid. We do Arutz 7 a favor by contributing our articles for free, and they do us a favor by giving us a forum to post them. But now that the "forum" is hidden from easy access, it's not a very good deal for us.

When Times of Israel first began publication I blogged for them, but then I stopped. They annoyed me with all sorts of rules, such as insisting on "original material," as if they were paying us for writing. I got fed up, especially when they took down posts of mine. It would have had been different if they had paid me, but you must remember that bloggers do these publications a service. I stopped, and afterwards was glad.

So now, I may not bother blogging on Arutz 7. I still have all of my own blogs. The Jewish Press has permission to post my material. And recently a new internet magazine has opened which davka promotes bloggers, Israel Blogger. I've been blogging for them, as you can see here.

What do you think?

18 Interesting Jewish/Israeli Blog Posts, HH/KCC, First of 2017

from way back when
This past Sunday, I promised my facebook friends who need some time to heal from American Elections that I'd try hard not to say/write a word about what's happening there. So, I figured it would be a good time to post another edition of a joint Havel Havelim and Kosher Cooking Carnival.
As has been my custom, since I have found myself "holding the bag," being the one and only blog carnival host for both of these Jewish blog carnivals, I just choose a variety of eighteen 18 חי Chai Life posts from various blogs, including my own obviously.

You can get more information on the facebook pages, Havel Havelim and Kosher Cooking Carnival, and if you'd like to get more active, then please email me. These editions now come out periodically, according to my moods.

Remember that these blog carnivals are for everyone, bloggers and non-bloggers alike, to read, comment and share. I hope that you take a look at the various blog (notice no mention of the blogs' names) posts included here and let me know what you think of the selection. Enjoy!
