Shannon Orand receives conversion to Judaism in Israel
Posted by Jewish Israel
Jewish Israel would like to wish a heartfelt Mazal Tov to JI member Shannon Orand upon her conversion to Judaism which she received in Israel earlier this week. Welcome to the Jewish people, Rachel (Shannon’s Hebrew name)!
Members of the Beit Din were Chief Rabbi Dov Lior of Hevron, Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu of Safed, and a respected rabbi who requested that his name be withheld. In addition, another recognized Chief Rabbi facilitated in the conversion process.
Shannon withstood an extremely challenging test over these past few weeks, as news of Leib Tropper’s compromising behavior hit the press and blogosphere. Jewish Israel had the opportunity to speak with Shannon this week, and she graciously afforded us an interview…more

A huge mazel tov goes to Shannon!
The Awareness Center wants to thank Shannon Orand for her bravery and tenacity. Shannon was named as one of the 2009 Rape Victim Advocates of the year.
The Awareness Center asks that people stand up when Shannon Orand walks in a room as one would do for a rabbi to show honor and respect for this hero and a role model for other women.
Mazel tov Shannon! Mazel tov!
The NY Post has reported that Shannon's conversion was stopped because of the tapes documenting her payment for sex with the rabbi. I know her and her father and believe that this is so. The rabbi also indicated he was paying for "medical procedures" to the tune of $500 for at least 5 visits. This woman had to ask her father for money to live. As a Jew, I am ashamed that people associate her with my faith and ancestry.
To Diana,
The tapes said that the Rabbi was paying for her "treatments" @$500 each treatment. What in the world was she being treated for? Tapes never specifically said it was for SEX. But in either case, something is very strange here. Her story has not been consistent since the onset of this scandal and therefore I dont believe anything she said..I cannot understand how these Rabbis could have done this conversion with the so called "evidence" she had on that Rabbi and her ?
