All the polls had been showing that Likud was much stronger than Kadima, and Labor was shrinking badly. The polls, also, showed that the people were disgusted that the Israeli south, including Left wing areas, was being attacked by Arab terrorists in Gaza and Gush Katif, and the only way to increase support would be to attack Gaza. Note that the media does its best to just write/say Gaza and not Gush Katif, because they don't want to remind anyone that Disengagement was good for the terrorists and bad for the Jews.
