O-BA-MA

The most successful politician is he who says what the people are thinking most often in the loudest voice. Theodore Roosevelt

O-BA-MA
by Sara Layah Shomron

Oh say can you see

what is so clear to me?

Once the land of the free and home of the brave
America now rides a "yes I can" wave.

When did the red, white, and blue turn to black
and open itself up to Muslim attack?

Rev. Jesse Jackson, Louis Farakhan, and
Rev. Jeremiah Wright
joyously shout Obama will help our plight!

Al-Queda, Fatah, Hamas, Hezbollah, PLO, Osama bin Laden, Ahmadinejad, and
William Ayers…
makes me a little nervous – yet no one cares.

Investigative journalists , columnists, and mass media silence
all part and parcel of this dangerous compliance.

I fear for you, America and the free-west
endorsers like these put President Obama to the test.

Good, so very tragic and they don't see it.
It's up to HaShem, as always.

Nicely put! I feel sick over the whole thing. The problem with democracy, of course, is that people are SO STUPID.

The media helped him along tremendously, glossing over or completely ignoring so many gaping holes in his biography, so many obvious problems with him and all his friends and associates.

The man didn't even show his birth certificate. What if he wasn't even born in the U.S. and therefore ineligible to run for president?! No one cared!

As I told my friends and family members who voted for him, they'll get CHANGE all right -- but they won't like it! I just hope the inevitable doesn't hit us here in E"Y. It's going to be bad.

On the other hand, as we're supposed to know, we should never rely on MAN to save us - only Hashem can do that - so no matter who sits in the White House, things will happen as they are supposed to happen.

We do our hishtadlut, of course, though our absentee ballots probably weren't even counted (because it wasn't even close in NJ), but ultimately Hashem will do what needs to be done. He should help us all - we need it.

Thanks for sharing this!

You're absolutely right, and if I'm scared I know you must be, too. For the most part, terrorism takes more planning and is more difficult to execute here than it is for you
there!!

I like the rhyming very much!
Despite all the alarm other readers (and the poet) feel, frankly I'm not as alarmed. Time will shortly tell but the new president may prove to be more cautious and less provactive (than other U.S. presidents have been). As for Israeli politics - Likud is looking interesting these days. We shall see...

I am not worried about Obama's election as president. I am more concerned about our elections here. I think that both McCain and Obama would have had the same affect on Israel, in the end. Where McCain would have been in the press talking about his support for Israel, he more than likely would have been playing games behind the scenes with our politicians here, and pushing for things that our politicians want to do any way.

With Obama, it is hard to exactly say what he will or won't do. He may say and believe things before he gets into office, but once he is in it is put up or shut up time. Also, if our politicians here had spines and stood up for Torah, we would have a COMPLETELY different international landscape.

I can't really blame the Americans for doing what they feel is right for their situation. So now it is one us who live in Israel who love Israel to do what is right for OUR country.

I also know that no leader rises without Hashem's approval or allowance. I also know that Hashem has said that our strength as Am Yisrael can change the world if we follow Torah. Think about the fate of every nation that has risen up against Israel in the past. Where are they now?

I'm going interpret black as a metaphor for gloomy times so as not to offend (probably the minority) of blacks who don't agree with the racist individuals mentioned.
What's going on back in the Old Country? I didn't even ask my family for whom they were voting because I didn't want to know. Most of them vote Republican and I have no chance of convincing the others. My husband tried, to no avail, to convince the Democrats in his family to, at least for once in their lives, vote for someone who would be good for America.
This poem is unfortunately (I've used that word a lot lately) an accurate picture of America's future. I have a feeling that not even rhyme and verse will wake them up.

Thank you all for your responses.

Anonymous, let me quote what Winston Churchill said about democracy: "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried."

Though American born, raised, and educated, I look at America from afar living here in Israel. Whatever happened to the America I knew? There used to be a thing called American values. You read Little House on the Prarie books - they had American values. Americans were once known for steadfastness, endurance, neighborliness, spirit of independence, always wanted to improve their situation - whatever it was.

And now there is an American President who can't put hand over his heart as customarily done while saying the Pledge of Allegiance, a First lady that wrote a college thesis
http://www.scribd.com/doc/2305083/PrincetonEducated-Blacks-and-the-Black-Community
focusing on the attitudes and perceptions of black college students toward their Princeton University education. Michelle Obama sounds like a tame Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The woman behind the man is the one to be looking at; the power Michelle Obama now yields. Maybe the election of her husband as President marks the second time in her life that she can be proud to be an American. That no investigative journalist or mass media outlet explored the Obamas' backgrounds, affiliations... is most disconcerting. I think President Obama speeches were filled with slogans but no substance. A call for change, a call for hope, a call for "yes I can" – as an old advertisement went, "Where's the beef?"

I have key concerns with Obama's policies besides those concerning Israel. Keys such as making America bilingual Spanish- English. I think it excellent and beneficial to be fluent in more than one language, but English, to me, is the national American tongue. Or was in the America that I knew. Keys such as concern over followers of Islam reaching a critical mass and not integrating into mainstream society but insisting their ways such as in France, England, Denmark... Keys such as Christianity taken out of public institutions but Islam introduced.

However as Ehav Ever points out, it is Israel where I'm blessed and privileged to live and it is Israeli elections in which I vote.

Shifra, beware of Likud. Think sports and team selection time: Bibi Netanyau at the helm with a front line team including Benny Begin, Natan Sharansky, Effie Eitam, and Moshe "Boogie" Ayalon. They are merely recycled political opportunists.

Shalom and Shavua Tov!
I have a long relationship with Princeton, starting with my father's degree in mathematics. I grew up near Princeton, went to private schools in Princeton from age 4 through high school and spent almost every Shabbat during my senior year with the Jewish student community of Princeton U. The black student population was anti-Semitic in the 1980's and I can't imagine that much has changed since then. They wanted to invite Louis Farakhan to speak. The Jewish students were able to stop it. I forget how, but it was by totally legal means. I'm definitely interested in a least glancing at Michelle Obama's thesis.
I second Sara's opinion of the Likud. Look at their record, and not just concerning land deals. The Likud has not been good for Israel.
