International Pressure Mounts on Israel and Malignant Myths

I recently had a talk with an American political pundit who stated that Hillary Clinton is pretty much a shoo-in to be the next United States President, because there isn't any other candidate in the horizon who can beat her. It's not that she's all that great, but there just isn't anyone else better. It's like a drought in terms of American political leadership, my word for it.

So, we ought to listen more carefully to the lady. Here in Israel we were horrified to hear her excuse the Gazan use of human shields with the easy to disprove myth of Gaza being "densely populated."

Look at this simple chart:

I purposely made this "extra large" so that even on a small screen you can see the city names and numbers.
I had no problem finding, via Professor Google, the proof, in an easy to understand format visual, that Gaza's population density is nothing spectacular. It's very far from being the most population dense location in the world. It doesn't even come close to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, which don't advertise themselves as being crowded cities. Does the United States really want a president who is so ignorant and has such an incompetent staff?

I'm still not sure whether the purported conversation between U. S. President Barack Hussein Obama and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was true or fabricated, but I am not surprised that most people found it very easy to believe.
The following is an excerpt of the conversation, published in Hebrew by Channel One:
Obama: I demand that Israel agrees to an immediate, unilateral ceasefire and halt all offensive activities - particularly airstrikes.
Netanyahu: What will Israel receive in return for a ceasefire?
Obama: I believe that Hamas will stop firing rockets - silence will be met with silence.
Netanyahu: Hamas violated all five previous ceasefires, it is a terrorist organization which is dedicated to the destruction of Israel.
Obama: I repeat and expect Israel to unilaterally stop all its military activity. The pictures of destruction from Gaza distance the world from Israel's position.
Netanyahu: Kerry's proposal was completely unrealistic and gives Hamas the military and diplomatic advantage.
Obama: Within a week of the end of Israel's military activities, Qatar and Turkey will begin negotiations with Hamas on the basis of the 2012 understanding [following the end of Operation Pillar of Defense - ed.], including Israel's commitment to removing the siege and restrictions on Gaza,
Netanyahu: Qatar and Turkey are the biggest supporters of Hamas. It is impossible to rely on them to be fair mediators.
Obama: I trust Qatar and Turkey, and Israel is in no position to choose its mediators.
Netanyahu: I object, because Hamas is able to continue and to fire rockets and to use tunnels for terror attacks...
Obama - interrupts Netanyahu mid-sentence: The ball is in Israel's court - it is obligated to end all military activities. (Arutz 7)
One mustn't forget that using countries like Qatar and Turkey, which have been so unabashedly anti-Israel, to mediate between Israel and Hamas Gaza is illogical, actually outrageous. And Egypt, which has been so unstable in recent years is also a peculiar choice. There are very few countries in the world that can be considered even minimally neutral. Canada is the only one that comes to mind.

Also, remember that Israel is a legitimate established country, and Gaza is a "territory" ruled by Hamas Arab terrorists. And that is where the lack of symmetry starts.

Please don't forget that Israel is being attacked. The Iron Dome doesn't provide full protection and none against the mortars which go under the "radar." There have been deaths, injuries and destruction in Israel.

Here are a few cartoons which describe the present situation very well:

Terrorist tunnels snaking in under our borders and leading to hidden exits is a threat that Israel cannot and will not live with. Dry Bones

The word is "shoo-in" not "shoe-in" Maybe it's getting to be that everybody makes that mistake.

Hillary Clinton says not what she thinks is true, but what she thinks sounds plausible to other people, and gets the most agreement. It soundsdplausible to say: well, naturally, Hamas puts rockets in built up areas - there are no other places in Gaza. The problems with that are that it is actually not true - there are farms in Gaza and that that does not excuse it under the laws of war, and the rockets themselves are an out-and-out war crime.

They also could have some other reasons besides human shields or trying to get people killed - proximity to command, ability to hide the rockets, and the need for tunnels to be near the border. But still they chose particularly bad places.

Somebody may have leaked a wrong version of that conversation.

There are some people in Israel who want to make it look like Obama is peremptorily demanding things in order to justify "complying."

The Clintons are rashas- seriously. the age old joke(no joke) is more people have died in cover ups then Ted Kennedy's car.
This woman and her philandering husband do not like someone or has tried to call foul? Get them offed...
Many have said countless times: This woman is indifferent to the life, health and welfare of human beings.... if she and the rapist - yes, rapist do not get what they want, then use some old fashioned violence and you will get results.
One shudders to think of what she and her husband's punishment in Heaven will must be...

I mentioned this on another site. From the white house website.

"Building on Secretary Kerry’s efforts, the President made clear the strategic imperative of instituting an immediate, unconditional humanitarian ceasefire that ends hostilities now and leads to a permanent cessation of hostilities based on the November 2012 ceasefire agreement. The President reaffirmed the United States’ support for Egypt’s initiative, as well as regional and international coordination to end hostilities. The President underscored the enduring importance of ensuring Israel’s security, protecting civilians, alleviating Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, and enacting a sustainable ceasefire that both allows Palestinians in Gaza to lead normal lives and addresses Gaza’s long-term development and economic needs, while strengthening the Palestinian Authority. The President stressed the U.S. view that, ultimately, any lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must ensure the disarmament of terrorist groups and the demilitarization of Gaza."

It sure looks like the audio follows quite accurately with the white house's details.

Don't be so sure that Hillary is a shoo-in for President. There are good candidates that can beat her. I think that the voters will be sick of the Democratic administration.

Sheldan, can you name one or two? I'm curious.

Batya,

It is really too early yet to say, but many current and former Republican governors (Walker, Huckabee, Perry, Kasich) might be the nominee.

As for the Democrats, there really is nothing there. Biden?! Warren?! Are you kidding me? As for Clinton herself, there is plenty that could derail her between now and the election. I am just not convinced that Hillary is inevitable at this time.
