Strange Poll Results

Hat tip: IMRA

IMRA's headlines focused on:

But I think the most significant finding is:
A year from now will America's relationship with Israel be better than it is today, worse than it is today or about the same?
10% Better
34% Worse
45% About the same
12% Not sure

My question is: Why do one third of those asked think that in a year America's relationship with Israel will be worse? I consider that very worrying. It's more significant than the 60% support today.

Being as America has never been a true friend of Israel, how much significance does this poll have? If we're dealing with the people rather than the government, perhaps it's an indication of a possible rise in violence against Jews. Even so, regardless of the number of people committing violent acts, the number of acts can increase, decrease or worsen in severity.

Hadassa, there has always been a difference in Israel's popularity between the US government policy makers and its citizens. The populace in general is more pro-Israel.

Batya, the poll question is easily understood to be asking about the US givernment's relationship with Israel, a year from now. Given this adminstration's loathing of the Jewish State, I would say that 34% of the respondents got it right.

Why do one third of those asked think that in a year America's relationship with Israel will be worse? The answer is simple: because of Israel's actions and its leaders. They clearly don't want peace and they're acting against international law. Looking at a history, America has always support Israel, no matter what happened. And it was not fair. Those days are hopefully over.

The reason that 34% think that it will be worse is because they do not trust Obama. Hopefully, the new president in 2013 will be more honest and relations will improve again.

Exactly right Sabba. It's Obama, who is vehemently anti-Israel.

And anti-American for that matter.

Shy Guy, it's obvious from my comment that I understand that there's a difference between the people and the government. My question is, "Does the poll have any significance?"
"Lies, damn lies and statistics." (I don't have time to Google who said it.)

It was Disraeli who first said that there are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics”.’

Actually more along the lines of liars, damned liars, and statistics but it has often been reworded to the form we are familiar with.

It's frightening to think of how dependent today's policians and government official are on the results of these polls in setting policy.
