The Al-Aqsa Foundation says the plans are a threat to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is adjacent to the Western Wall.
The area is considered the third holiest in Islam and holiest in Judaism. (complete article)
The issue is the proposed building of an elevator for handicapped visitors to the Kotel (western wall.) Of course the Arabs don't want any Jewish construction in the area, in principle, but their opposition to the elevator for the handicapped is totally laughable.
In a statement, the foundation said the project intended to divide the mosque and prevent worshipers from reaching it, citing the plan as an attempt by Israeli forces to increase the presence of Jews in the area. (emphasis mine)
What's the threat by elderly, handicapped and young families with baby carriages? Are they afraid of canes, crutches and pacifiers?
During the nineteen years Jordan governed the area Jews were forbidden entirely, the same discriminatory policy for all of the Jewish holy sites in Judea and Samaria. Only Israel allows all religions full civil rights. Oops! Not exactly. Jews are severely restricted on the Temple Mount, our holiest site in the world. Something's very wrong....

Aside from the blatant religious oppression of Jews and gross over reaction to a simple access ramp I think they're afraid of anything remotely close to an excavation on the Temple Mount.
Why does it upset and scare them so much? I honestly don't think it has anything to do with the mosque. They're afraid any digging will lead to some discovery. what that is I don't know.
I sometimes wonder if they're afraid that the ark will be found and stir Jews to destroy their mosque and rebuild the temple.
Just my two cents, though.
Keli, the only thing they're afraid of is if we call their bluff and tell them and their fans the truth. They're all a bunch of vicious antisemitic hypocrites.
Absolutely. That too.
Shalom!
Keli, the Wakft regularly digs on the Temple Mount in order to destroy any archaeological finds that would indicate ancient Jewish presence on the site. Even the secular archaeologists are furious at the loss of historical information. Archaeologists sift through the "garbage" that the Arabs bring off the Mount after any digging in hopes of finding precious traces of anything ancient. Or perhaps the "authorities" have stopped that practice. It's no secret. I just haven't looked for details in a long time.
