Human Rights, Free Enterprise

Human rights, civil rights, free enterprise, natural growth, capitalism...
We can throw Darwin in too, the survival of the fittest and all that.

We have a major housing shortage and over-crowding in Shiloh.

Our neighborhood synagogue is being almost doubled in seating capacity. The committee has done a miraculous job finding ways to expand it and quickly. One of the advantages of being in a climate where it doesn't rain in the summer is that building additions is easier. No covers were needed from rain. OK, I should have worn a sun hat and sunscreen on Shabbat. My seat isn't too exposed, but some of my friends kept changing their places as they chased the shade.

There are dozens of temporary, quickly built homes like these, constructed on site, like giant lego or tinker toys.

Luckier families, who already own real homes are expanding them to suit their needs.

In the rest of the world, or for Arabs a couple of kilometers away, this would be no big deal, but the world makes different rules for Jews in the our HolyLand. And unfortunately, our Israeli politicians concentrate their efforts on currying favor with our enemies, rather than doing what's best for Israel.

Enough of the hypocrisy! Let the international politicians, world community and "moralists" concentrate on real problems like Iran, Arab terrorism, cancer and pollution. In the meantime, we're busy living and building. Just mind your own business!

The world community's obsession with Jewish construction is like someone in a burning house who checks the refrigerator to see if the milk has gone bad. Tzipi Livni would of course run into the inferno with fresh milk.

What these goyim need is a new hobby...and Israeli politicians need lobotomies...or acupuncture...something.

Shtuey, we need some real leaders with their priorities in the right direction.

Wow. The frontier (or prairie, desert) in the second photo looks absolutely gorgeous!

G-d gave you the land. There's no reason not to build. Israel's leaders need to tell other world leaders to take a long trip on a short plank.

Question--do you have outside seating at your synagogue while it's being expanded? That sounds pretty cool:)

keli, What you call "frontier or prairie, desert" is just across my house. Yes, it's beautiful. It's parched, because it's late summer, and we haven't had rain since late winter.

Amazingly the people in charge of the expansion of our synagogue have made it possible to use every week. The walls are removed, leaving open, exposed new areas, but we sit under the old roof. No feeling of crowding.

Shtuey--I would think most Americans would be in favor of Israel expanding, particularly on land as vast and beautiful as this land where Batya lives.

How can any American look at it and not think of the American frontier days and the TV show Little House on the Prairie?

Israeli expansion is so...American. And Israeli.

I can understand Obama not getting it since he didn't grow up in the US but the rest of the US?

Keli, people aren't logical when it comes to Jews and Israel.

Shalom!
In America, the early settlers were given a rifle by the government if they couldn't afford to buy one. And they were expected to use it. Forty dunams and a tractor would be a good policy in Israel today. The US government just doesn't want to admit that Israel has more rights to her Land than the US of A ever did to hers. Actually, the Israeli government doesn't want to either, so what can we expect from the USA?
