The latest high profile Jew plus goy engagement is New York Jewish Congressman Anthony Weiner and Hillary Clinton aid Huma Abedin.
Echoing Edwin Schlossberg's mother when he announced his engagment to Caroline Kennedy, Fran Weiner said:
"Anything that makes them happy."
I remember Schlossberg's mother saying exactly the same thing, but I can't find it online.

Not necessarily.
I have seen on blogs that his mother was born a gentile and had a non-halachic conversion. If this is true, then we have nothing to be ashamed of.
