Jazzing Up Chanukah Along With Buried Treasure

The media is all exited about the buried treasure discovered in a "dig" near the Temple Mount.

It's the third night of Chanukah. Our Chanukiyot are filling, day after day, getting brighter and brighter.

The treasure which interests me the most isn't gold coins. It's the Jewish religion. Defeat the Hellenists by studying and observing Judaism. Chag Urim Sameach.

FWIW,
the wax candles are not good enough for pre-Shabbat lighting. Thank God we moved to oil a few years ago, but only now realize how many years that our pre-Shabbat 45minute candles were worthless.

There is a simple way to avoid worthless pre-Shabbat candle lighting; Take a strip of aluminum foil, fold it a bit and place 'tea-lights' on it as your Shabbat hanukiah instead of the wax candles.

Tea lights are a great idea. I like oil, and my husband sticks to his candles. For Shabbat we use the better candles.

We moved to oil after my attempt to use better candles as well. We used the standard thick white Shabbat candles, but the heat generated by them melted them fast into a pile of white goo. Thank God, there was no fire.

The candles have to be lit at around 4pm before Shabbat and last until about 6pm (half hour after 3 stars) for them to be worth anything.

I agree, but I must provide whatever the "customers" here want. I have a full variety of chanukiyot.
