Naively, I guess, I had thought that the destruction of a number of houses a decade ago had been the end of the government/Leftist/Supreme Court harassment of Amona. But I guess it just made the Left hungrier for blood. And yes, it's blood they are after, Jewish blood.
The entire premise of today's Israeli Left, and even Center, is that the Arabs have more rights to live in this Land than Jews do. The pre-State Israeli/Zionist Left was more a matter of economics, socialism (even communism and being pro-USSR) versus capitalism. That's why the kibbutzim, which never numbered all that many people, got all sorts of extra benefits that other Israelis and Zionists didn't. Between Independence 1948 and the 1967 Six Days War, the country was more divided by which pre-state military group one had associated with, Haganah, Palmach, Etzel and Lechi. And for those who arrived post-war, ethnic factors, European-Ashkenaz or North African-Sefardic played a big role in acceptance into the elite or even getting a decent job.
The 1967 Six Days War was a game-changer, because the new divide became whether one believed that Jews belonged in all of the Land of Israel, YESHA-Judea, Samaria, Gaza, Sinai, Golan and the Jordan Valley or not. And here we are, just a few months short of the 50th Anniversary of that war, and we're still fighting the internal Israeli battle over it. The focus is now on Amona, a small, pastoral, semi-rural community a half hour north of Jerusalem.
To give an idea of how differently Israelis of the Right and Left look at Amona, just take a look at the pictures chosen by Arutz 7 versus the one in the Jerusalem Post.

The Eshkol-Labor Government refused, and their successors still refuse, to accept/recognize the simple fact that the Arabs aim to destroy us and do not want even a small ghetto-like Israel to exist.
We cannot mollify or pacify the Arab terrorist enemy with a few acres of Amona. It won't bring anyone peace.
The only thing that will bring an eventual, not immediate peace is to declare sovereignty in all of the Land we hold and act as a sovereign nation allowing/encouraging Jews to live all over, even in Ramalla and Shechem. All Arab terrorists must be executed without trial if caught in the act. Any Arab who wants to live in an Arab country, judenrein as most are, can choose between the more than twenty that already exist.

Batya, you wrote,
"My feeling is that the entire issue rests on the problem that the State of Israel never annexed the Land we liberated in our war for survival in 1967."
That seems to be the question, doesn't it? Whether we (actually the Israeli government, that is supposed to represent us) really, in the end, thought the 6-Day War was about our survival or not. If we did, then why didn't we take advantage of gaining every single dunam we could??? If we thought we could afford to give land away from what we'd gained, then I guess...not. Making us all LIARS. That's MOTZI SHEM RA on the entire people of ISRAEL, including WORLD JEWRY!!! And we haven't even gained population since the Holocaust, like the rest of the world, so we davka CAN'T BE LYING or even EXAGGERATING.
Thanks for tolerating my rant.
As I've written many times, and it's fact not guesswork, the Eshkol government firmly believed that they could trade Land for peace. The Labor Party leaders had also made a quick peace over the fact that the 1949 lines made for a small state. It was large enough for them, and they didn't really think Israel needed Hebron, Beit El, Shiloh etc.
" act as a sovereign nation". That is it, we are not, never have been actually. Legally there is no reason that we cannot annex the land. We are a vassal state of the US. We sadly are so sold that Trump will be our messiah but he is not in office yet and most do not know his ties to the Vatican who pulls the strings. The Vatican wants the Land and nothing will stop them in doing so. Remember JFK after he said he was going after the Fed Reserve, well, Dallas. Trump is making many enemies who will stop at nothing to continue their globalist agenda. I hope Trump does well for his country alone. We need to take care of ourselves and stop relying on the goyim. We know how well that has worked in the last 2000 years.
Need to agree with Shilo on this matter, 100%. He accurately described the situation.
This has nothing to do with Trump.
