Stirring Trouble Here in Israel

Two types of poison are at present stirring trouble here in Israel.

One is our old nemesis, Jimmy Carter, who should have stuck with peanuts instead of the United States Presidency. He and Obama read the same script, both loving the P.A.'s Abbas and hating Israel. Carter was bad enough as president, but the minute he didn't have to please anyone but his true supporters, the faux smile was erased when he dealt with any Israeli who had the gumption to support our precious country.

The former US president urged European countries to take a more constructive role in pushing for a two-state solution.
“The end of occupation and settlement expansion that a two-state outcome implies is, in our view, the best guarantee of Israel’s future security and acceptance by its neighbors,” he said. “To help achieve this goal, we feel it is high time that the countries of Europe take a more proactive role, underpinned by a serious financial commitment to assist in Gaza’s reconstruction.”
The Elders issued a statement saying that “the situation in Gaza is unsustainable and intolerable.”
“A complete paradigm shift is essential,” the statement said.
“The shift demands the lifting of the siege. It also requires an end to Israel’s policy of separating the West Bank and Gaza.” (Jerusalem Post)
If only Carter was correct in his claims that Netanyahu opposes a Palestinian State. Besides that one line, taken out of context just before the recent elections, Bibi has been saying for years that he is in favor of the "two state solution." What he said  before the elections was that there wouldn't be a Palestinian state unless the Arabs agree to certain conditions, such as recognizing Israel's rights as a Jewish state. That proviso is/was ignored by the headline writers and simplistic antisemites like Carter. Unfortunately too many Israelis never read past the headlines and gave the Likud their votes.

Two is (are) the instigators of the very violent demonstrations by Ethiopian Jews here in Israel.

My gut tells me that the NIF New Israel Fund is behind it. The tension is definitely caused by the NIF which mentors the NGOs that lobby/pressure Israel to allow all of the illegal Africans to stay here as if we're supposed to be refuge (dumping ground) for any foreigner who wants a good safe life. The United States Government jails and deports anyone who tries to get in, though Obama has now loosened the gates for illegals but not for those who are trying to do it all legally and have gotten messed up by the system.
(Reuters) - A demonstration by Israeli Jews of Ethiopian origin against police brutality turned violent on Thursday, with police using water canon to keep angry crowds away from the prime minister's residence.
At least 13 people were injured and two police officers and five protesters were taken to hospital, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.
Police fired bursts of foul smelling water from a water canon and used stun grenades to disperse the demonstrators, who threw stones and bottles at scores of police officers on hand.

In my neck of the woods, Benjamin-Samaria, the Jewish immigrants olim from Ethiopia are gradually integrating into Israeli society just like any new group as their Hebrew language and education improve. Personally I think things would speed up if they'd officially adopt standard Hebrew names which would make it easier for people to relate to them. My husband and I legally changed our names within a few years of making aliyah, moving to Israel. It doesn't matter what family and old friends call me, but I think that having an easy to pronounce very Israeli name, Batya Medad, is a plus, rather than the difficult for Israelis to pronounce "Beth Winkelman."

The aim of the extreme Left NIF is to stir dissent, incite against the government. They do have some positive groups they mentor, but that's just window-dressing.

In the meantime, we're all waiting to see if Netanyahu can put together a viable, stable coalition, or we're probably off to new elections in a short time.

With all due respect Batya, you've got this seriously wrong. Do you honestly think that Ethiopians are just like any other group of olim? Do you really think it's because of their names?
B"D there are many success stories, but it cannot be denied that Ethiopians face racism that no other group of recent olim do, including police brutality. I wish that this were not the case but it cannot be denied. We're not perfect and not everything is a plot.

Did you see the video of the police attacking the Ethiopian soldier? And what of the Ethiopian soldiers who have commited suicide (or been assited in this?).
If the police attack an Ethiopian soldier in uniform for the crime of nothing at all, what message does it send?
Of course, someone has to organise a protest (which turned violent) but sometimes people just need to fight back.
It may be unpalatable but that was not the only incident of the police having a go at Ethiopians for the crime of being Black. Let us not hide theh trutch, that there is a "Jewish on Jewish" racism problem with some of the police.

Hi Batya,

I'm writing you here as I am unable to reach you via the email address I last used to contact you. I visited your home back in December 2011, and you were very helpful during my visit to Shiloh and introduced me to your neighbor who gave me a tour of the Tel. My wife and I have just made aliyah from Paris, France with our two small kids. As you can imagine, my main concern is finding employment. Translations from Arabic, French and Hebrew to English have been, along with teaching the aforementioned languages, my main line of work in France.

I would be so very grateful for any ideas or help you could provide me with.

I can be reached at 0587335456 or by email: alnachmani@gmail.com

Sometimes the truth is difficult to swallow. First, putting aside the police brutality which the SOI has become infamous for, when it comes to Jews and, in general. Second, these NGO orgs., especially with Jewish inuendo in it, such as 'New Israel Fund' are the worst of anti-semites, and third, we have to be honest. The last couple of aliyot of Ethiopians were made up of many (or most) non-Jews. The world is in chaos because it is being run by Esav/Yishmael & the Erev Rav who have taken over. All foretold and, unfortunately, will continue to be until Moshiach is here. BTW, 'racism' is just the latest ploy that is being used universally for anything that the above mentioned players need to achieve their goals.

There has been the riot tonight at Rabin Square.
I guess reports are still coming through, by London standards the riot is relatively small scale and "tame."
I do concur with Batya that there are left wing/anarchist elements agitating and causing violence and protest.
I also stand firm that there is police (and societal) racism that needs to be dealt with.

As for the last two Ethiopian Aliyot having non-Jews as 'Anonymous" has commented, recent ones have included Falash Mura but they are Halachically Jewish.

***WHAT IS THE REAL REASON WHY MUSLIMS HATE ISRAEL?***

Egyptian Islamic clerics Sheik Said Al-‘Afani and Sheik Muhammad Abd Al-Salam appeared on Egytian Al-Rahma TV on 2009 January 17.

This is what they said:

SHEIK SAID AL-‘AFANI SAID:

“(The Jews) are the accursed people, who incurred the wrath of Allah.
They are the offspring of snakes and vipers, the slayers of our Prophet Muhammad, whose death was a consequence of his being poisoned by a Jewish woman.

We should know that the Jews are the slayer of all the prophets.
They killed the prophet Yahya (John the Baptist) and the prophet Zakariya.
The slaughtered the righteous prophet Yahya, and they presented his head as a gift to an Israelite prostitute. Our hatred of them [the Jews] is purely on religious grounds, and not because of the pure, sacred land, which was blessed by Allah, or because of Gaza…

Not only because of Gaza, not only because of [the] al-Aqsa [mosque] and so on.

We hate them [the Jews], first and foremost, because of their enmity towards Allah, and because they slayed our prophets. Let me clarify that it is our duty to hate them, as part of our faith.”

SHEIK MUHAMMAD ABD AL-SALAM SAID:

“Right [correct]. People have become confused about this, some think that it is a territorial or national issue, or that it has to do with the blessed Al-Aqsa mosque; but the issue is much broader, it is a matter of faith. We are obligated to hate them because they are a murderous people, and the enemies of all that is good and of Islam.”

From what I've seen there is no systematic discrimination against Ethiopian immigrants. Obviously there is some on an individual level and the police who attacked the soldier should be jailed, fired etc.
Every immigrant group has gone through difficulties. I remember the demonstrations of the "Black Panthers" the North African Jews who were angry at the secular, Left Ashkenaz establishment. In general Israel has improved greatly since then. Among our family and friends those lines have been erased, and there's hardly a family without various Jewish ethnic groups married together. No doubt Tel Aviv is worse, but I would have trouble fitting in and be accepted there, too.

Jimmy Carter quotes fake Mandela latter to prove Israeli “apartheid”
March 09, 2007

From South Africa’s Business Today:
IS ISRAEL an apartheid state? Apparently Nelson Mandela thinks so. In a recent letter to New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, Mandela lays out the case against Israel with unusual candour. Mandela’s words are now being quoted all over the world. Last month, former US president Jimmy Carter cited the letter in a speech at Brandeis University. And who’s going to argue with Madiba?

Unfortunately for Israel’s critics, the letter is a hoax. It is the creation of a man named Arjan El Fassed, who runs an anti-Israel website called The Electronic Intifada. El-Fassad has admitted that he made the whole thing up, but the Mandela letter has now entered the anti-Israel canon alongside countless other fictions. Yet, much like the Israel-apartheid comparison itself, it is completely spurious.
Read the whole thing.

While it appears that Fassed did not push this hoax, it shows volumes about Jimmy Carter’s devotion to truth that he quotes a fake letter that would only exist on anti-Israel websites.

Assad’s Emails Hacked: Jimmy Carter Embraced Syria Regime before Obama.
Gianluca Mezzofiore
February 9, 2012

Former US president Jimmy Carter sought to boost diplomatic links with Syria and improve image of President Bashar al-Assad after Bush administration.

In a heated email exchange between a Carter representative and Assad's spin-doctor, Bouthaina al-Jaafara, details of the plan have emerged.

David Lesch wrote to Jaafara in November 2008 to organise a visit by Carter. His email reveals US plans to boost ties with Syria before Barack Obama, who had just been elected president, entered office.

"I also wish you the best of luck in finding some funding for the PR/communication firm we spoke about so that we can have the adequate mechanism to prepare coverage for the event in December, but also to improve US-Syrian relationship at a crucial time before the next administration comes into office, to improve the image of Syria and President Bahsar in the United States, and help with other form of cooperation," he wrote.

Under the Bush administration the relationship between the US and Syria was dire. Washington described Damascus as a pariah, imposed economic sanctions and recalled its ambassador. But in 2008, an email hacked by the Anonymous group show how Professor Lesch urged Assad's representatives to carefully plan Carter's visit.

Abstracts of the emails show Lesch extremely concerned about the lack of support by Syria's Ministry of Tourism. "As we discussed in our last meeting together on October 20th, we have been less than satisfied with the assistance of the Ministry of Tourism, although we consider it to be a friendly and necessary partner in all of this," he wrote. "As I told you, the Ministry has not even replied to our e-mails or helped us arrange our past visits to begin to establish the SCWT [ [Syrian Cultural Walking Trail] . If this lack of help continues in this way, I do not think the December event will be a success for anyone."

In another extract, he wrote in capital letters: "We really need a note from you to the ministry of tourism strongly urging their cooperation and having authorization to plan this event accordingly. We really need our team on the ground led by Mr. Daniel Adamson and Osama al-Nouri to have the freedom to plan this event and make decisions and not wait for permission for every little thing from the ministry of tourism."

At a private meeting on October 19, 2008 between Lesch and Assad, the Syrian President confirmed that he and Carter would inaugurate the Syrian Cultural Walking Trail by walking together into the historic town of Maalula.

As recently as March 2011, Lesch wrote in the New York Times:

"The crackdown on protesters doesn't necessarily indicate that he [Assad] is tightening his grip on power; it may be that the secret police, long given too much leeway, have been taking matters into their own hands."

In his 2008 visit to Middle East, Carter also met with the political leaders of Hamas in Syria.
