Jew against Jew in the Hamptons. There's a big fight in Westhampton about whether or not an eruv, an almost invisible wire to enclose an area according to Jewish Law, can be erected in the posh town. I have no doubt that many (probably most) of the opponents consider themselves Liberal, even liberal. They may be Liberal-adhering to a strict ideology, but they certainly aren't liberal. If they were liberal, they'd be flexible and tolerant of other life-styles, like that of the Torah observant (Orthodox) Jew.
The hypocrisy is a shanda, a disgrace.

Mr. Gottesman is a disgrace to the human race, let alone a massive Hilul Hashem for the Jewish people.
I agree with Shy Guy! West Hampton would be a much more civilized place without Mr. Gottesman. He is truly disgraceful!!!!!
Oy, he answered his own agenda and opiniopn when he said it would not be in trusive, it would just keep the Orthodox Jews out....oy!
Isn't that a bust of a Roman soldier on the table behind Mr. Gottesman?
He sure illustrates why the Beit HaMikdash was destroyed.

The hypocrisy is indeed a shanda. I watched the video clip, read a few articles and then I stepped back and looked at a different aspect of the situation. Westhampton isn't part of the Jewish homeland. Jews shouldn't be trying so hard to build a life there.
That of course is a totally different issue, which reminds me that I had wanted to write about the OU's program to encourage Jews to move to their "dying communities." They should be encouraging Jews to make aliyah.
In Westhampton, it's Jew against Jewish religious right.
