The Jewish People is a land-based people. One of the most valuable things the early Zionists did was to return us to agriculture.
Our Torah, our Bible gives us G-d's threats, warnings and promises. If we sin, the Land won't cooperate, won't give us the food we need. It won't rain, or it will rain at the wrong times.
Last year my neighbors and I enjoyed a rich fruitful, bountiful harvest as Shemitta, the Jewish Sabbatical Year, drew to a close. None of us could remember such massive quantities of fruit and grapes.

A very sad post:(
The first thing that came to mind was how often the Torah compares barren land to barren women. Maybe Hashem is angry because too many of Israel's children are being lost to violent crime (ie. terrorism), leaving the mother's barren.
Sad, too, that grape vines haven't flourished this year. Grape is needed for wine which is needed for Shabbat. Perhaps a connection there as well. Hashem wants more people celebrating Shabbat.
Regardles, I agree that Hashem is angry, and not just with Israel. The US too.
maybe its because you are living in occupied territory. i had a bumper crop this year. [relax people, im just kidding!]
and i dont think we are really a land-based people. if this were really true, we would not have survived 1800 landless.
Keli, thanks, good point about the barren women.
a, If you're "just kidding," what's the point? Read the Bible if you disagree about Jews being a Land-based people. Many of the commandments are based on agriculture.
And I just wrote about Jeremiah's prophecy coming true with grapes growing on the mountains of Shomron...http://tinyurl.com/nux7f4
Between Jews violating Shabbat in the name of defending Shabbat, and all this talk of freezing settlements and dividing the land, I can see how HaShem would be angry. Of course the root of that lies with a government that lacks real Jewish leadership. Let's hope we see that shift this coming year.
May the New Year see HaShem renew blessings in the heart of Am Yisrael, and Eretz Yisrael.
"G-d must be very angry with us."
i'm not sure about this whole "g-d" thing, but israel should be ashamed of latest gaza war crimes.
a, Israel is innocent of war "crimes." Israel is responsible for defending her citiziens from Arab terrorism and aggression.
muse, you forgot...the world sees Israel's survival as crime. I guess that makes us career criminals.
And Shanah Tovah!!!
Stuey, I know, and I fight it, and I'm careful about not using sarcasm in the words I write, so they can't be quoted against us.
Gmar chatima tovah.
Shalom!
One third of the mitzvot can be observed only in the Land of Israel. The others - all of them - can be fully observed only in the Land of Israel. All mitzva observance outside of the Land is considered in many ways to be practice for observance when we return to the Land, and also a way to prevent the loss of knowledge of how to keep the mitzvot.
Sure sounds land based to me.
G'mar hatima tova!
Hadassa, what would I do without you? Great reply!
