Gilad Shalit, A Victim of Ideology

Every time I read/hear that Gilad Shalit's parents are blaming Prime Minister Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu for his continued imprisonment, as if the Likud is hiding him some place in "HaMetzudah," The official Likud office building in Tel Aviv, I really feel sorry for the kid.

Israeli policies, which predate Bibi's becoming Prime Minister, have been wrong in treating Arab terrorist prisoners like honored guests.  They should get no more than the minimal that international law demands and even that should have ceased once the Hamas Arab terrorists captured our soldiers and gave them nothing that international law demands.

The Shalit family advisors are from the Israeli Left, and their pressure on Israel to give in to terrorist demands is wrong and dangerous for all.

...not that i blame them one bit

Israel's ridiculous pandering for acceptance from the international community that is disdainful at least and pampering evil instead of meting out justice that is appropriate is to blame. When we are kind to the cruel we end up being cruel to the kind.

Are you two "a's" the same?

Batya, any way you can limit comments to people who are registered to one of the online services which Blogger recognizes for logins?

The time for "not blaming" the Shalits has long passed.

Shy, good idea.

If it were my son I'd probably move heaven and earth to get him back and make a pack with the devil.

But they're putting the lives of every Israeli in danger as they do so.In dealing with Hamas they had made a pack with the devil. They might possibly save their son (doubtful) but wil certainly put the lives of every Israeli in grave danger as terrorist after terrorist is released to coax Hamas into releasing Gilad.

I still have a fear that Hamas will start kidnapping Israeli school children. Notice in every cartoon mocking Shalit Hamas has him saying "Ima!"

Hamas is well aware of how young he is and looks. They know how much condemnation his kidnapping has generated. Can you imagine how many terrorists Israel would give Hamas to secure the release of an innocent child not even in the military?

But the left does seem to act as if Bibi has him locked away somewhere.

Gilad Shalit will never be released by negotiating with terrorists. His only hope is to escape or wait to be rescued. Otherwise they'll keep him as long as he's a valuable bargaining chip.

After that???
