The Moon "Is Shrinking;" Rosh Chodesh Tammuz is Getting Closer

The Jewish Calendar is lunar with adjustments to keep our holidays in their correct seasons.  Rosh Chodesh, the first day in the Jewish Month begins when it's almost impossible to see the moon; just a thin sliver shows.  A full moon is the middle of the month.  Sivan, this month's moon was full a couple of days ago and is now getting smaller.  Rosh Chodesh Tammuz is less than two weeks away. This coming Shabbat we make a special blessing heralding the new month.  In it, we ask G-d to be blessed and that we get what we need in the right amounts.

Rosh Chodesh is also considered the Women's Special Holiday.  A few years ago I began inviting women to come to Tel Shiloh to pray.

It was in Shiloh, the Biblical and modern Shiloh are the same location, where Chana successfully prayed for a son.  Shmuel, that son, was the leader who transitioned the Jewish People from the anarchy of "Judges" to the monarchy by annointing Saul and later David to kingship.
