I "rewound" the newscast to see who this so-called "expert" sic is. I had just heard Dr. Mordechai Kedar, a professor of Arabic. He may know Arabic, its grammar and literature, but he doesn't know bupkes about me and my neighbors.
The IBA had called him in to speak about the burning of a mosque. No surprise that he turned his time with the mic into an anti-settler tirade.
Kedar and his ilk refuse to see that Jews have been living in Judea and Samaria and other Land liberated as a result of the 1967 Six Days War, for well over thirty years, forty years when you include the Golan, Jordan Valley, Gush Etzion and Hebron region. A large percentage of our Jewish population, an entire generation only know life in these parts of the Eretz Yisrael, the Land of Israel. There is no "going back."
Typical of the Left, Kedar is ignoring facts which contradict his philosophy. That reminds me of something MK Dr. Arieh Eldad, MD, has said:
"Israel's Right wing is full of scientists. The Leftists are philosophers."
Many of the parents of today's students in YESHA schools grew up in the yishuvim, villages, communities. There are many three and even four generation clans here. The Land of Israel isn't just our HomeLand in theory, it's our home and only home. There is something dangerously myopic in the views of people like Kedar.

Shalom!
Could we have a link to the IBA item?
Thanks.
I've heard and read items from Kedar. If I remember correctly, he doesn't always come across as a left-winger - or am I mistaken?
Hanukkah Sameah!
There's no specific link. It was last night's IBA newscast and the phrase "go back to Tel Aviv" bothered me. It's that idea that we're playing games and set up to be just a tent demonstration which is so wrong.
actually, a quite small percentage of the country grew up and only knows life in the territories.
and one of the important lessons of gush katif is that there is *always* going back. this is an important lesson to internalize, just for psychological health and understanding of the political landscape.
the 3-4 generations is only because some older generations moved in later. a place that has supported jewish life for 30 or perhaps 40 years is hard pressed to sustain 3 generations, much less 4.
This is probably an ignorant comment (ie. uninformed) but people are calling Jews even in Jerusalem settlers. What's to say if Jews moved from Judea and Samaria to Tel Aviv these same types wouldn't start calling every Jew in TA settlers.
I remember during the expulsions asking people where the Jews would be displaced to; if they would be forced out of Israel to another country.
Pretty much everyone thought it was an incredibly dumb thing to ask. I was duly embarassed.
But now that question is back in my mind.
a, what's this garbage about "going back" to where? to be homeless poverty stricken refugees? Really? That's outrageous!
Today, most Jews in YoSH have no other home and have no place else, and why should we give our homes to terrorists like the ones in Gush Katif. You stand in front of the "cannon" and commit suicide, please.
keli, I see where you're coming from and thought of bringing up the classic antisemitic "go back from where you came from." I just didn't have the time to write something so complex.
Everyone says the same to us: "Go back," and we'll keep going back until we get... to Eretz Yisrael!
Nu, b'emet...
Dr Kedar is certainly delusional about immigrating to Tel Aviv, because the leftists are under the assumption that we are all moving to the Negev and the Galil.
They want to herd us like cattle to places they wouldn't trouble themselves to live in.
i meant going back in the sense that you did.
ok!
