Even Paranoids Have Real Enemies

One of my fellow bloggers, who likes giving his "two cents" aka esser agaroth about all sorts of issues. This morning he has a post up about the U. S. Troops In Jordan: Now Will You Believe Me?
For years I have been suggesting that the U. S. government's sending of troops into Israel (Yes! In Israel!), and into anywhere near Israel, has been based on anything but "good intentions." Whether it is to gain eventual control of Jerusalem, Christian historical sites, or more, the presence of U. S. Troops in Israel is not for the benefit of the Jewish People. I say that EVEN if U. S. Troops are coming (or are already here) to serve some sort of role in Shimon Peres's the Israeli government's grand scheme of things
.
I feel like summing it up by reminding us all that
"Even paranoids have real enemies."
When I read the late Benzion Netanyahu's "The Founding Fathers of Zionism," I was struck anew by how pro-British and even anti-Zionist* Chaim Weizmann was.  Even before reading the book, I had strongly suspected that Weizmann, inexplicably to me, Israel's first President would have had preferred that Israel be some sort of protectorate or member of the British Commonwealth, rather than be an independent state.

*In my mind it does make Weizmann anti-Zionist, because the aim of Zionism was the establishment of an independent Jewish State in the traditional/Biblical Land of Israel.

None of the military or diplomatic experts of the time, from the end of World War Two until the 1949 ceasefire Armistice agreements between Israel and the invading Arab states, expected the Jewish State to survive at all.  At "best" it was believed that Britain or some other power would be called in to "keep the peace."

After the 1956 Sinai war, when Israel helped France and Britain capture the Sinai, there was a United Nations Emergency Force between the Suez Canal and Israel.  That military/policing unit was banished by Egypt as Nassar put the final touches on his plans to invade Israel from the south in the spring of 1967.  The United Nations just slinked away at Nasser's command.

Again, in 1967, nobody, no military expert actually expected Israel to survive.  The Israeli battle plans was just to save status quo aka the Auschwitz borders.  Fortunately, G-d had different plans and we liberated the Judenrein sections of Jerusalem, the Golan, Sinai, Jordan Valley, Judea and Samaria.

In 1973, again, the Arabs, with the knowledge of western countries, planned a war to destroy Israel. This time, they were more secretive and didn't announce it publicly.  But I have sources from United States military stationed in Europe summer, 1973, who reported that they had been equipped with desert gear and kept on call until the Yom Kippur War ended.

It's no secret that prior to Yom Kippur, 1973, many western diplomatic staff families returned home from Syria and Egypt, expecting danger.  Israel foolishly and dangerously ignored this.

And during the war, the United States attempted to control the outcome by controlling when to supply Israel with necessary weapons.  They were hoping for a stalemate, a tie.  They did not want Israel to have another resounding, extraordinary victory.

"Man plans and G-d laughs."  Yiddish proverb

Thankfully, He's on our side!

Israeli leaders shouldn't forget that the United States has an agenda, and it's not to our benefit.

I learned quite a bit from this post, Batya. I hadn't any idea of Chaim Weizmann's pro-British leanings! Logic would dictate that **shudder** Herzl was no zionist either, as had his dream come true, we might be living in Kampala!

Thanks for the plug, Batya!

And you're right about the U. S. having an agenda, and that IDF troops need to know that.

But, who's going to tell them?

And, is the Israeli gov't's agenda in our best interests?

:-/

Netivotgirl, Herzl had a good grasp of things, but Weizman was awful. I think you'd like the book.

Esser Agaroth, Would it help if we wrote in Hebrew?

The Dimona Radar Station building is already US-only territory, been that way for years now. I'm not so sure that it's a massive problem, notwithstanding that it hurts people's feelings. But Esser's ===feelings=== can't provide imaging-radar data about Iranian airspace.... the AN/TPY-2 can. If it makes you feel any better, this is also the US policy in the other countries where this radar is installed (Turkey & Japan).

American military manpower is in such tight supply now that the presence in Jordan isn't indicative of a long-term agenda..... it's indicative of an actual red-hot-emergency (the flood of Syrian refugees) facing the US's vassel..... King Abdullah.

Alan, what are you basing this on? Re: esser agaroth's feelings, I know him and trust him. I don't know you.
