The Eisner paradigm
If a picture is worth a thousand words, a YouTube clip is valued at millions. This is why, in a split second, Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner – deputy commander of the Jordan Valley Brigade – turned into a world-renowned anti-hero this week.
Eisner, leading an operation to curb the activities of the “peace activists” who made up last Sunday’s “flytilla,” unwittingly became the latest casualty in the propaganda war against Israel. Caught on camera smashing the butt of his M-16 into the face of a young Danish activist, the IDF officer instantly lost the career he loved, along with the former admiration and respect he had earned as an upstanding commander. Everyone at the top, from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Defense Minister Ehud Barak to IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, rushed to distance himself from Eisner, without so much as a “by your leave.”
The investigation into the 60-second incident, the lead-up to which lasted a full two hours, will take place. But whatever its result, Eisner’s reputation has already been broken, like his spirit and one of his fingers. (complete article)

Shalom Eisner is a religious Jew and he is exactly the kind of person the branja did not want to promote. Last weekend's incident simply provided them with a ready made justification. If it hadn't existed, they would have found another one sooner than later. Eisner's mistake was not to thrash a settler. And as they say, the rest is history.

Whatever a commander does in IDF uniform reflects on all Jewry today- cameras are always rolling. Right or wrong, he is Israeli, he is a Jew and Jews are to be judged. Differently. Even though the incident was nothing in comparison to how the American troops are misbehaving, as reported of late-- posing with dead bodies, urinating and burning the Koran- these actions make our troops look unprofessional and undisciplined, which is bad for moral and security for the nation. It reflects a breakdown in command. I see the point Blum makes but I doubt in a real serious confrontation troops will hesitate because cameras are rolling. It appears that the IDF need to have training in crowd control. I did not see any command being given to soldiers- in fact they appeared to be roaming around, casually, talking etc. There was no lineup, no orders, no command for the perpetrator to stop. Believe me, I have been around these leftist anarcists on many occasions in Israel and at home here at UC Irvine. These people deserve a good slap in the face and more- but to me its not worth the trouble. It would be me that would be video taped and on trial for assault.
The anarchists knew exactl what they were dong and they achieved their goal- to show us Jews in Israel looking bad. Mission accomplished-another delegitimization in their cap.

Norman, exactly.
deborah, did you see the clips on Latma re:showing how other countries treat those endangering public order?

not only should he be promoted, but the Danish Nazi needs the Aldo Raine's treatment.

I agree that our officers need back up, and training for themselves and the soldiers, on how to handle crowds. This is a police matter, yet the IDF are engaged in areas they are not trained to handle. The lady above is correct.
