Russian Orthodox in Israel strive to resurrect “Church of Zion”

Posted by Jewish Israel

It’s no secret that myriads of Russian Christians (hundreds of thousands?) were able to “make aliyah” via Law of Return loopholes, forged documents, or simply because they have authentic Jewish credentials but secretly identified with the Russian Orthodox Church or messianic Christian groups.

While the trend of messianic Russian congregations is well known, it appears that non-Jewish Jews and “Jewish believers in Jesus” are now filling the pews in what’s reported to be a spiritual revival of the Russian Orthodox Church in Israel.

To understand the magnitude of the problem, it’s essential to recognize that many “Christian Zionist” and messianic Christian groups continue to actively evangelize Jewish and Christian aliyah candidates in the former Soviet Union.

While in Russia or enroute to Israel, assistance in the aliyah process includes “spiritual guidance”, “intercession” and exposure to Christian scripture. Missionary efforts and Christian indoctrination continue for the immigrants once here in Israel, with a number of Russian Jews embracing Christianity post-aliyah.

In this must read post, Jewish Israel takes our readership on a whirlwind “fishing” expedition through some chilling waters “from the land of the North” – and our report is just the tip of the iceberg...

Well, you know - I've been thinking about the reports about what's wrong with the sheeta - and it seems that it's part of the Geula process, in that we need to LOOK PAST the obvious and find the LIGHT in the darkness here.

Now what could that be?

Anyone?

Um, the light in all this? That's a tough question. The light could be that we're so strong that Hashem is testing us and expecting us to finally defeat the Xtians, especially the missionaries.
What exactly is "the sheeta" in your opinion? Thanks.

Looks like another fabulous JI article. I haven't read it yet, but will as soon as I write this comment.

I've seen the word "sheeta" twice here. What does it mean?? Is it similar to the Hebrew/Jewish word that describes worshipping the G-d of Israel and then adding other false gods on His face aka Christianity?

For the life of me, I can never spell the word. It sounds like "sheetoof" or shituf or sheetuf. The word comes up when rabbis discuss how it is forbidden to worship one.

Somebody help me with this, please.

I'm probably wayyyy off the path on this.

Ellen:

I clicked on "more" to read the full article on JI but got a message saying the article was not found.

Hadassa:

Shalom! Shalom! Shalom! You are a beautiful person, your comments always greet us with peace.

You're right about the light in all of this, too:)

Penina Taylor wrote: "Nobody likes being targeted. None of us like to think of ourselves as fish in a pond just waiting to be hooked. But the Jewish people are seen exactly that way by missionaries."

That's exactly how I feel at times:( especially at work! My boss was a lay pastor at his church and now attends a non-demoninational church which has recently taken to calling people from the phone book at offering to pray for them. If the person bites they try to reel them in and ask them to attend a service or event at the church.

Their website said its goal is to offer every man, woman, and child "repeated opportunities" to accept JC. Repeated opportunities sounds a LOT like harassment to me.

As for the boss, when I told him I had heard complaints about the church calling people on the phone described ME as a "Jewish Zealot." Exact words--Jewish Zealots--based on...small Jewish holiday greetings and my little religious music videos on You Tube in which I express my joy and love of Hashem.

Jewish Zealot is not much better than Christ Killer. I'm sure that will come next. In any even I posted on Facebook that I support JI, Yad L'Achim, Outreach Judaism and Jews for Judaism without apology:):) And I do.

Fishers of men...ultimately the fish cannot survive out of its natural element and dies. Xtians have nice analogies, don't they?

BTW: Is the Ebenezer Emergency Fund associated with the pro-aliyah Ebenezer USA?? I saw a program they had on xtian TV in the US. One of their guys said OUR eyes are blind.

Keli,

1. Link fixed.

2. "Shhetah" means "method" or "methodology".

3. Ebenezer USA is one and the same. So is "Operation Exodus."

The sheeta - the systematic methodology employed by those opposing Torah.

Perhaps it's to call all Torah units together right now - to unite as One and that only together as ~a united front~ can all of these opposing forces be transformed into light.

I believe that there needs to be a concerted effort among each one of us here to begin bridging Yehuda and Shomron.

Unfortunately, Mezzuzah, there is currently no such Metzi'ut of Achdut among us. :(

Mezzuzah said...

See Shy Guy - that's also what *appears* to be - not necessarily reflecting What Is actually happening. It's our conditioning and beliefs that are coloring our perceptions this way or that. Left, right, divided or united.

All it takes is one decisive moment to choose:
"It will be that when all these things come upon you-the blessing and the curse that I have presented before you-then you will take it to your heart among all the nations where Hashem, your G-d, has dispersed you; and you will return unto Hashem, your G-d, and listen to His voice, according to everything that I command you today, you and your children, with all your heart and all your soul." (30, 1-2; Artscroll translation.)

Choosing not to unite will simply spell out death for us. At this point we have no choice but to unite. One step at a time but do this we must to survive.

So Keli, when do we get to meet you over here on this side of the ocean?

Mezzuzah, I wasn't talking about me or you.

I'm talking about our supposed Manhigim, both rabbinic and political.

Been there, done that.

Don't hold your breath waiting for them to set an example to the masses.

Mezzuzah said...

We are the manhigim of Darchei Hashem and we are the ones that must move into unity mindset. There is no time left. It's no or truly never. The process of leaving galut has begun and safek is totally removed from consciousness - forever - with bitachon and emuna replacing it for all time.

You gotta plan, Mezz?

Seriously, look around. This is what I think about at the end of Tachanun, when I say "Va'anachnu lo nei'dah mah na'asseh, ki Eilecha eineinu."

Oy.

Mezzuzah said...

The plans have already been written. We are supposed to be awake enough to read the writing on the Wall.

Anonymous said...

Which was my point in the first place, that we are asleep.

Mezzuzah said...

That was your point - that wasn't mine. Mine is that once we're awake we take the next step and start investigating the Writing and start. Start - DOING. It is highly SAFEK that you would say that we are asleep when clearly the majority of the minority is NOT. So please re-adjust your belief system, because in the gestalt of things - we are as we believe and we can't afford even a nano-second of SAFEK.

Thank you and Shabbat Shalom.
