Director of Rabbi Riskin's Interfaith Center Appeals for Funding to Build Church in Jerusalem

Posted by Jewishisrael.com

In January 2013, just prior to Israel's national elections, a controversial video emerged with Bayit Yehudi candidate Jeremy Gimpel declaring to a Christian audience that in the future, once the corner stone of the Temple is laid, "the Jews would build churches. We would build them!"

The future has arrived, sans the Temple. David Nekrutman, executive director of Rabbi Shlomo Riskin's Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding and Cooperation (CJCUC), located in Efrat, has made an urgent appeal for funding to establish a church in Jerusalem.

The obvious question which comes to mind to Torah observant Jews is why in the world would an organization founded and directed by the Chief Rabbi of Efrat, Shlomo Riskin, and staffed by Orthodox Jews enter into the church-building business?  But apart from halachic considerations, there are plenty of other concerns  ....more

Rabbi Riskin has proven who he is, together with the likes of Gimpel a long time ago. How can any rabbi call himself an orthodox rabbi and have come out with his past and present comments, affiliations, associations & partnership with notzriut? Yet, no one has called him out on this, except for Jewish Israel (thanks to Ellen Horowitz). As far as I and most other orthodox Jews are concerned, he should be thrown into cherem and out of the Jewish fold. He has disgraced the orthodox Jewish world and Torah itself, without even an apology. Something is very sick within the Jewish world today, especially in Israel. Thanks to JewishIsrael.com for their exposure of this great travesty and sin, and now maybe people will be awakened to do something about it. Am fearing the wrath of the Eibeshter upon the children of Israel, if we allow this to continue without putting up a fight for the kavod of Torah and Judaism. A disgrace of unprecedented proportions in modern history.

JEWS bringing the cross to JERUSALEM?!! Devastating! I'm so sorry for those Jews. 2000 years our people have suffered and died because of that thing in order to stand by our Torah and now some of our People want to build crosses in the Holiest city of the G-d of Israel?!!
This is very damaging to the souls of the Nation of Israel. May their eyes be unveiled and may they return to the path of our Creator.

If anything should be done it's the opposite. The churches should be torn down. Don't call me an extremist. All the houses of foreign worship should be torn down. I hope I live to see this happen. No churches, no mosques or anything else. If they don't like it they can leave. In Tanach they killed the priests of baal and scattered their bones.

Just shameful! I know Rabbi Riskin is very liberal in his thinking, but to encourage churches to be built on our holy land is unthinkable. If I wanted to live with churches I would of stayed in Canada.

Batya, thank-you for this important post. Please post all new developments. I'm sharing!

"Surely it is not a mitzvah incumbent upon the Jewish people to facilitate the spreading of the gospel of jesus christ anywhere in the world, let alone in Israel!"

Surely we Jews speak of "Jesus of Nazareth" NOT of "Jesus Christ"? Christ means "the Anointed" and we do not recognize Jesus of Nazareth as such.

Shimona,
I think a lower case jc gets the message across just fine.

@Anonymous - not really, the lowercase letters can too easily be mistaken for a simple typo (as I myself thought). Quotation marks would have done the trick though.
