British Consul-General to Jerusalem Sir Vincent Fean hedged Saturday that "a permanent agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority will be reached by the spring of 2014," the Palestinian news agency Maan reported.
According to the report, Fean said that the agreement will include joint Israeli-Palestinian sovereignty over Jerusalem.
The British consul-general was quoted as saying that the spring of 2014 is going to be "crucial to the inception of a Palestinian state on the basis of a political solution," adding that "Jerusalem will serve as the shared capital of Israel and the future Palestinian state and the agreement will also include land swaps."
Everyone keeps harping that we need "peace," but none of the ideas so blithely bandied about would give Israel and Israelis any added security. Nothing like this has ever, ever worked any place in the world, so why should anyone in their right mind think it would work in the Middle East between Israel and those Arabs sworn to destroy us?
The "world" and Israel's Left-Center-Left keeps on insisting that the P.A. Abbas, Fatah, is a moderate with whom we can work things out, unlike Hamas, but those two groups are in constant contact and on the verge of officially merging.
Abbas added that he spoke to Hamas leaders Khaled Mashaal and Ismail Haniyeh "on a personal level" and that their positions on reconciliation were "not that far apart. There is now some serious discussion about reconciliation [between the PA and Hamas]," Abbas said. So, it's very simple logic to conclude that an agreement with Fatah must be kept with Hamas. Will teh Israeli Government allow logic to get in the way of this dangerous ideology? It reminds me too much of the tragic mistake the government made prior to the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when it allowed the "conceptzia" to rule logic. The Israeli term "conceptzia" means preconceived notion\presumption\ideology or wishful thinking. The "conceptzia" blinds the mind to accepting reality. They don't want to hear the truth, because it will make them look foolish.
I'd call this simple math. If Hamas joins Abbas's Fatah, then we have to pay very strong attention to what Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh is saying, and he's telling his supporters to start a new strong intifada against Israel.
Minister Ismail Haniyeh delivered a speech on Saturday in which he called for a renewed violent uprising against Israel.
Calling the Schalit deal a "historic victory," Haniyeh said, "Hamas will continue to act with all means to free all fighters in the prisons of the Zionist enemy."
Haniyeh praised recent Palestinian attacks against Israelis in Judea and Samaria and called for Palestinians in that region to resume the armed struggle against Israel.
"We send our blessings from Gaza to our brothers in the West Bank who carried out the recent attacks against the occupier," Haniyeh said. "Our heroic brothers in the West Bank must rise up, resume armed resistance against the occupier and embark on a popular uprising on the streets of the West Bank."
What kind of peace can we have with them?

What kind of peace can Israel have with Arabs who raise Nazi flags over their villages?
The British Vice Consul is in deep denial. What he says is quite ridiculous! I am a different person from my German forbears.
In contrast, present day Arabs still revere the Nazi Mufti and remain loyal to his ideology. They don't want peace; they want to kill Jews!
People blind to reality will never understand why in truth peace is impossible in the Middle East.
it's called "newspeak". when they say "peace", they really mean "Israel gives strategic and historically-important parts of the Jewish homeland to the arabs, who continue to attack." like when we have a "cease-fire" with the arabs. (we cease and they fire.)
Norman, Leah, I agree with you both.
Shalom!
I was in Petah Tikva today and was SO happy to be able to tell all of the campaigners, "I'm not a resident of the city."
