I wanted to post on Carl's blog, but it requires a google account, something I don't need yet, so you win another post.
came by through shilomusings. Great post.
I gave up on Caroline and Jpost as well as Lord and Makor Rishon way before the last elections, I think even before the expulsion. I don't know if they really believe in Bibi or feel as headline columnists that they have to latch on to the leader of the 'right', but certainly thinking people see through Bibi already. As much as we want to believe that he is the same charismatic 'ambassador Bibi', he is not. The years of getting pounded by the Israeli media who hate him have done its thing and softened him up. It's only natural really, I don't think too many people could stand so much villification from three major national papers and two major broadcast channels. If any one thinks they are voting for 'leaders', then they are also being mislead. Bibi used to be a leader, and maybe, when the crap starts hitting the fan, we might see him shine again, but in the meantime the country is being run by PR mavens. There is absolutely no doubt about it and no secret either. When what news is leaked to the media and to which publicist/columnist is decided by these PR mavens who are consulted often. It's not even news anymore. These PR guys have very large offices and even hire people to do talkbacks on ynet and nrg.
Bibi wants to be popular again, and this means playing sweet to the media who control what most people think.
I won't be voting for someone who is the lesser of evils. If I don't believe in someone, then I would rather spoil my ballot (which is counted contrary to what everyone tells themselves), then voted for someone I can't trust just for the sake of voting.
I agree that Bibi is far from perfect, however I remember 91 when the right abondoned Shamir and we got the Altalena muderer and Oslo. I remember in 99 when the right abandoned Bibi and with a little help from Clinton we got Barak. Clinton was able to bugger Bibi with a little help from his friends in the liberal(jewish) media and official shtadlan Jews. I don't know if even Begin could have stood up to the great stainmaker. Bibi is not perfect, but do you really want barak/peres? What if every Jewish libs favorite Nazi -hillary- gets elected Peres/Barak will totally cave. Bibi has at least some correct instincts , a Jewish identity(unlike "Israeli") and will be held back by his coalition (somewhat).
Batya, i agree that sharon disappointed us, but the left would have been much worse. Also -maybe- sharon had a card up his sleeve- the great strategist he was. Olmerde and Barak WILL give away the store. You can count on that. Bibi maybe, but there is a hope. Josephs Tomb is exemplar of what will happen to Jewish sites if the left stays in It should be a rallying cry.
Popint well taken, but with the American Jewish dominated liberal media a Hillary ramrodding a deal to Peres/Barak could not be stopped by Likud in the opposition. Were they able to stop Oslo?
According to Oslo, we should have been homeless around Pesach of 1994. I remember it very well, since once the plan was announced I stopped planning my son's Bar Mitzvah for Tammuz of that year.
I figured we'd be in a refugee camp in Independence Park, Jm.

Yes, I agree with you.
That's why I keep repeating the same message, also re: Sharansky.
ps Once I added the "word recognition" I opened up my comments and I'm not sorry.

And do you remember how happy we were when Sharon was elected and could have put together a strong right wing Eretz Yisrael Government?

Worse than Disengagement with the Likud in the opposition? No way!
Just like if Begin had been in the opposition, Sadat would not have gotten the Sinai.
Popint well taken,

Actually, Oslo was stopped.
