Dan Meridor Has It All Wrong

Nothing will invite further criticism than "self-examination."
Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor thinks Israel should establish its own independent committee to investigate Israel Defense Forces activity in the Gaza Strip during last winter's Operation Cast Lead.

"I have faith in the army and it is my duty to protect it, its commanders and its soldiers - and the most effective tool for this is serious self-examination," Meridor said in a recent interview with Haaretz. "A state that examines itself [protects itself from] harassment. Today, with the development of international law, one of the best means of defense is for a state to investigate itself."

It shows weakness, doubt and is a Pandora's Box of tzorrus.

We must be realistic.  The Arabs here are not ready for peace.  They don't want it.  They want war.  And the weakness of Meridor's way of thinking is a serious danger for us.

Now why is it that Meridor sounds a lot like the Obama adminstration here? Obama's people want Bush administration officials investigated and possibly charged over Gitmo.

Our respective countries are fighting for their lives and government idiots want the goverment/military investigated and not the terrorists.

Next thing you know, Israel and US will be giving reparations to Arabs.

non sequitor. meridor says israel should investigate itself. this has little to do with being at war, or the arabs' readiness for peace.
and self-examination is a great sign of moral character and greatness, not weakness.
problem is, the accusations are so ludicrous [goldstone] as to render them meaningless.
but in general i am a big fan of [reasonable] self-criticism. it is a key component of growth.

No one cares about us doing self-examination and it won't get any credibility unless it duplicates Goldstone.

Let's (as a nation) move on, no one cares anymore about this issue.

To sum it up by using what keli, a, and josh wrote:
In this case self-criticism/reflection isn't reasonable and it only extends attention on Gladstone Report which should be ignored.
