New Look And Listen To The IBA News

The Israeli TV IBA Channel One news has undergone a total overhaul and now has a cold, modern icy look to it.

The focus of the material, what's considered news-worthy has also changed. Every night the news concentrates on child abuse, like the robberies, murders and rapes on New York news shows.

There seems to be less about politics and almost nothing about security. Most of the allegedly abusive parents are chareidi. Very rarely will they picture someone without external signs of religiosity.

The official hype before the "modernization" was that there would be major changes, and I have a strong suspicion that the news topics are part of this change. It has made the "news" less interesting and certainly less important.

Israel isn't like any other country. We're in danger, and our news editors are intentionally ignoring it, trying to make us focus on "gossip," Lashon Haraa and Motzei Shem Ra instead of the corruption of our politicians and security issues.

Batya, Shalom.
Did you happen to read "Microscoop" in this week's Hebrew B'Sheva? Very recently two female reporters with a strong feminist bend published a very favorable interview with the leader of the "Burka Women". After the news of the abuse broke they did some fancy journalistic footwork to try to explain how they didn't notice any signs that anything was amiss.

Personally, I can't imagine anyone dressing like that unless there are emotional issues. That's not including the nun-like anti Jewish element.

Even before the abuse story came out Rav Shmuel Eliayhu said that the women were definitely disturbed.

Their followers need counseling.
