A Good Mob, Crowding Together to Learn More About Ancient Shiloh and Archeology

Today was the Second Annual Shiloh Conference.  It was conducted in Hebrew, tours, the new tourist center movie and a slew of short lectures.  There was a full and varied program, including a generous snack break (coffee, juice, fruit and cakes) packed into just over five hours.  Shiloh HaKeduma, the Tourist office for Tel Shiloh,  did a fantastic job planning and executing the program.  If you want to know more about the program, read my husband's blog.  He summarized it.

My only complaint was that the archeologists kept referring to Biblical periods by their historic/archeological names, like "early bronze age."  That's Greek to me. I'm no expert, but I finally began learning Tanach, Bible in recent years.  So it would have made more sense to my limited mind to have them also refer to the Biblical time periods, like Judges,  First Temple etc.  I kept asking those sitting with me.  I hope they didn't mind.  After awhile I gave up.  It'll take me a few more conferences like this one for me to get it right.

Even though I get to Tel Shiloh for Rosh Chodesh prayers just about every month, I'm not expert in archeology and there were so many new things uncovered recently.  It was great to get the excellent explanations.  Multi-lingual guides can be hired from Shiloh HaKeduma by emailing visit@telshilo.org.il or call 02-994-4019.

In just a few days will be Rosh Chodesh Av:

Thanks for sharing the details and photos! So many conferences, so little time - some of us were busy at the Ir David lectures at the same time, next year the hosts should be more coordinated..
Meanwhile great to learn more, and on your dating-terminology gripe, you are right, its frustrating, but take solace in the fact that if we are talking Bronze Age etc, it means someone outside of our daled amot is listening, and that has value too. When we take our tourists around, we should remember the biblical history, but we should also know how to sound 'scientific', adding that so we can play with the big boys as well. :)

Ruthie maybe next year you'll make it. It's a shame the organizers of the various "conferences" don't coordinate. Competition isn't good.

My knowledge is so limited. Eventually, G-d willing I'll understand what they're referring to.
