Dramatic, Photogenic, But No Connection to Their Cause

Greenpeace did a spiderman protest on Jerusalem's String Bridge which meant that pedestrians were banned by the police from using it.  I don't see the connection between the Ashkelon power plant they were protesting and the bridge.  I personally almost missed my bus because of the extra time I had to wait for red lights etc.  Whether it suits the lightrail or not, the Jerusalem Calatrava Bridge is magestic and apparently the new spot for daring and attention-grabbing demonstrations.

It took six hours for activists to scale the cables that extend 387 feet (118 metres) above Jerusalem, supporting a bridge that resembles a ship's sail and dominates the city's skyline. The climbers displayed their 1,550-square-foot (144-square-meter) sign for 40 minutes, said Theodora Karchovsky, a Greenpeace spokeswoman.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said none of the climbers was arrested.

The goal was to remind Netanyahu that burning coal "accelerates the phenomenon of climate change and global warming," according to a Greenpeace statement. (complete article)

I thought that it has been proven that "global warming" isn't real; it's no more than a myth.  It's not that the Left ever lets facts interfere with their ideology and causes.

I saw it from a few blocks away and thought it was a maintenance team.

Global warming or not, wouldn't a gas fired plant be more energy efficient, less polluting and the right investment for Israel, considering Israel's recent major gas field finds?

Is this another Israeli white elephant project, that's going to make someone a ton of money and not be the best solution for Israel's electricity shortage needs?

Perhaps the "white elephant" explains why Greenpeace did their protest on the idiotic bridge of the same nature.

The powerplant project leaves me with more questions than answers. Greenpeace can get something right 5% of the time.

While it is true that coal producesCO2, it also produces particulate pollution that cools the earth ( global dimming) akin to volcanic ash.

Shy, I saw it from all sorts of distances, especially since I walked to Egged from Shaare Tzedek.

Daniel, I'm not an "energy expert," but one thing for sure, the Left will use any excuse to go against Bibi.

You have to love the fact that these demonstrators come to Israel (or are Israeli) and demonstrate about one power plant. China is operating several thousand of these plants consuming 3.2 BILLION TONS of coal in 2010 and releasing a CO2 footprint of over 4 million Tons of CO2 per year into the atmosphere.

Hmmm. Why aren't they hanging banners on bridges in china?

I prefer to coal to atomic power.
In China, they'd be shot.

Yacheil, Greenpeace has a local Israel contingent.

OT but why wasn't Greenpeace charged criminally for reckless act?

If people try to go over Niagara Falls (and survive) they're always charged.
