Can a Leopard Change Its Spots?

The United States, European countries and more invested money and human lives trying to turn Iraq into a civilized western-type of country.  Have they succeeded?  Was it worth it?

Terrorism is still frequent there.  Can Iraq become like Indiana?  What do you think?  What does history teach us?

When the US first invaded Iraq I had hope that the country would change. There were the powerful images of Iraqis toppling the statue of Sadaam Hussein and then the right to execute Hussein in their own country for the murders of some 200,000 Iraqis.

But that seems a distant memory for the Iraqis and they're back to being a typical Islamic nation.

I do hold out some hope for Iran (not the leaders but the citizens). Unlike other Muslim nations the citizens in Iran are protesting. Watch some of the human rights abuse in Iran videos on You Tube and the comments by young Iranians.

They want nothing to do with Islam. Can't blame them when so many students were murdered in the riots (many buried before their parents could even report them missing).

There's even one video of a woman attacking a member of the morality police.

But yes, if you watch the human rights abuses by the Islamic Republic on You Tube and listen to the horrific screams of women when they're taken away in police cars you can totally understand why the young people riot.

What choice does anyone have but to fight, live under oppression or be killed?

Why that hasn't spread to other Muslim countries I can't say.

They have a different culture, different norms, and it's not easy to change.
