For close to a century already, since the time of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt four-term Presidency, American Jewry has been worshipping the Democratic Party. Historically there is really no justification for this. The fact is that Roosevelt did nothing to save European Jewry from the Nazi Holocaust. FDR was president when immigration laws were tightened to keep out Jews. He even had boats of fleeing refugees sent back to certain death. When the Americans finally were forced to begin fighting the Nazis it had nothing to do with stopping the slaughter of European Jewry. There was nothing in the war plans to stop the death camps. Finally when the war ended, American soldiers were shocked, unprepared for the tortured, starving survivors. Some of the Jews were even "killed by kindness" when the misguided Americans overfed them, not realizing that their emaciated bodies couldn't handle large quantities of food.
Obama's Democratic Party isn't any more sympathetic to Jewish issues or pro-Israel than FDR was. The original platform in the recent convention ignoring Jerusalem is the true opinion of the party. Listen to the yeahs and nays.
There were more shouts against amending it to bring in god and Jerusalem as Capital of Israel than in favor. The panicked organizers were surprised for sure.
I was both elated and scared when I heard the “nays” and “boos” emanating from the Democratic National Convention floor Wednesday as a pathetic Antonio Villaraigosa desperately tried to take votes amending the Democratic platform on “God” and “Jerusalem” — elated because I was watching a bogus public dumb show come apart, at least temporarily, at the seams, but scared because I was staring, again at least temporarily, into the gaping yaw of the 1930s.
For those fleeting seconds, I realized that, yes, it could also happen here, because, make no mistake about it, those copious boos were not for “God” (except, perhaps, for a few scattered nitwits), but for Israel. A sizable and serious claque on the Democratic National Convention floor was shouting and applauding against the Jews. (complete article)
When will American Jewry wisen up? Breitbart's article brings up a good point, emphasis mine.
Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.
The fact that they have inserted the requirement for negotiations means that they don't take Israeli sovereignty and rights seriously. The final sentence I quoted makes no sense at all. At present Jerusalem is technically "undivided" but it's considered dangerous, unwise for Jews to go to Arab neighborhoods and stores although Arabs walk, shop and work freely and safely in Jewish areas. How can there be a call for negotiations that would obviously divide the city and still follow that final sentence?
Besides all the above, American policy has been putting Israel in the hot seat while helping its enemies, as Ruthie Blum recently wrote in Israel Hayom.

or maybe try to take the party away from the crazies, if you have nothing else to do or no other party to go to.
America's liberal Jews ARE the crazies!
Wink, that can't be done. Feiglin couldn't do it in Likud, which is smaller an more homogeneous.
Shy, Liberal not "liberal." Otherwise you're right.
>> although Arabs walk, shop and work freely and safely in Jewish areas
perhaps that's what needs to change? The question mark is because I'm a pragmatist, not a hater. Snakes aren't a nice to look at as a housecat, but they actually catch mice better (measured in upkeep costs). It's about what WORKS.
I work with Arabs in Sha'ar Binyamin. The customers know that we're in charge and that's fine.
Alan, are you suggesting that we go DOWN to their level and act like beasts?!?!?!!
Rickismom - The fact is that it is the exact opposite here in Israel. Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cggZu0QQUU and you'll see that Israelis are overwhelmingly against racist behavior to Arabs. So despite the fact that the Arabs treat us badly in our own land, we don't do the same back to them.
Whether it's right or wrong, we embrace our enemies to our bosom today, just as we did in the time of the Macabees, 2,200 years ago. Then, too, it took a civil war to drive out both the Greeks and their Hellenizing sympathizers.
