Evangelists, Politics and Shomron PR – The Pew of It All

The Shomron Regional Council's Israel Advocacy Conference and Wine Tasting Reception will take place in New York on November 17th.

Everybody knows that Israel is in need of good hasbara. JewishIsrael understands that nobody needs or deserves it more than the farmers and residents living in Yehuda and Shomron. BUT the evangelical personalities featured on the flyers and in PR reports, and their agendas, raise serious concerns.

JewishIsrael outlines some of the pitfalls and offers some suggestions…more

Really? Is this what G-d had in mind for us? We're not to eat or drink with the Gentile. Do they think G-d approves of this? Basically this is a form of prostitution. There's money involved because if there wasn't I don't think it would happen.

i honestly dont know about not eating and drinking with gentiles. i know some orth jews, really orthodox, who do eat with gentiles but they keep their own kosher food. they dont mind giving the non jews their food, but its on a different plates and that too not because of any 'i am holier than thou' kind of thing but because of halacha. if a non jew had just eaten non kosher food and some part falls on the plate. my friend rahel in NY found out that her parents were jews. but she and her siblings were brought up as catholics, now they are messianic jews but she went thro the full orthodox rites and her husband and she are orth. she does visit all her family members who are now messianic xtians and celebrate xmas, but she takes her own food and utensils and they understand. ofcourse she is praying for them, trying to influence them without friction..... when xt are involved, its just not easy. as an ex xt i should know.

rainbow, there's an acutal halachah, Jewish Law, forbidding drinking wine with non-Jews or even letting non-Jews touch open wine and be involved in certain stages of wine production.
Of late, rabbis have decided to re-define wine as two different types, "cooked" and "non-cooked." So some people allow the "cooked" wine to be considered just a drink and not of the same religious status.
The idea of having a mixed, Jewish-Christian event surrounding wines is totally problematic according to Jewish Law.

Batya, do you know when the rabbis decided to make the distinction between cooked and uncooked wine?

CDG, I don't know, but that's a really good question!
