Following is a comment I made to Soccer Dad on this:
I've always felt that the excuse that "we deserve a state because of the 6 million...," etc is a real problem and related to today's troubles. We shouldn't go for the pity angle; it's sick. It relates to the Jewish people asking Shmuel (Samuel the Prophet) to make them a king like all other nations. That's how we got stuck with Saul who let Amalek reproduce before executing (not killing) him.
We are a people, a special people, and we should have a state to be independent and live according to the laws G-d gave us.
