They have no history of self-rule, which we have.
All some Arabs may have in common is possibly some genetic features, but even that is pretty unlikely today. The Arabic language is widely used but that doesn't make them one people. English speakers or Spanish or French ones aren't different nations/peoples.Batyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09402874037427009327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7040911.post-15698710759030908762014-12-17T07:04:04.386+02:002014-12-17T07:04:04.386+02:00I'm confused... i thought the Arab Yishmaelim ...I'm confused... i thought the Arab Yishmaelim came from Arabia, which was known as the homeland of yishmael. They then proceeded to "settle" throuhgout the middle east and north africa, demographically overwhelming the elements of the population who remained (ie who they didnt kill or terrorize thru robbery, and those who were still able to make a living or whatever). as a case in point consider Eretz Yisrael. The Jews were the majority there for some time after the Arabs came (or so I remember seeing somewhere). Then they largely disappeared, for reasons I am not clear on, but there's no reason to assume that the inhabitants of the land of Israel 500 years ago were anything but Arabian settlers, and so why can't the same be true about all the other lands? Also, such claims play into the hands of the Arabs, who claim that they are indigenous (forget abt the recent immigrants, certainly a sizeable minority of today's E. Israel Arabs are from families with pre-Zionism roots) when they are really invaders from the arabian peninsula. Them, and the Egyptians, and the Morrocans, and all of them. All from Arabia.

Of course, it's true that sancherev mixed the nations all up, but on the other hand i think there are a number of chazals that refer to yishmael as a nation that still exists and that we identify as "our brothers". what comes to mind is their behavior after the destruction of the first beis hamikdash.yehudanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7040911.post-63557421792300197432014-12-09T13:07:59.524+02:002014-12-09T13:07:59.524+02:00They are not ethnically Arabs either. Just like there are no Caananites, Hitties, etc., etc. They have all disappeared, as everyone knows. Surely, there ar remnants of Yishmael (Arabian peninsula, Bedouins, but even there, there is much mixture. The so-called Palestinians are more like the Plishtim (which means invaders). We know them as Amaleikim because of their behavior. There are no Amaleikim today, per se, but they are representative of Amaleik. ...Leah and Batya -

Thank you for the correction.

I have no intention of implying that the Arabs are connected to the Canaanites or any others of the 7 nations. However, they emulate them and apparently are trying to impersonate them (haven't been successful so far); so they deserve to be treated alike.

I apologize for any playing into their hands that I may have done inadvertently.

Please enlighten us as to who Yishmael's descendants ARE today, if any. I get confused between those who say Arabs are from Yishmael and those who disagree. Do we actually know? And why are some people saying we're under the Yishmaelite Exile if there are no Yishmaelites here?

And I think it would be wise of us to point out the irony that Palestine/Palestinian means Land of the Intruders/INTRUDER - because that's how they label us. I have said in the past that we should have never let go of that name that the Romans foisted on us, seeing what the Arabs did with it. But now I think Golda Meir was right; we just should have poisoned it for everyone else. Even the Romans didn't take its meaning into account, if they even knew.

All the very best to all of us.HDG, Yerushalayim, E"Y Shlemahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10943174572566458612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7040911.post-68826160490887783862014-12-08T07:16:46.335+02:002014-12-08T07:16:46.335+02:00Leah, thanks for the reminder and the facts.
