Journalist Giulio Meotti calls for rejection of Judeo-Christian blend

Posted by Jewish Israel

Giulio Meotti, a fiercely pro-Israel and very articulate Italian journalist, recently conjured up memories of Rabbi J.B. Soloveitchik's stance on interfaith relations. Meotti called for a rejection of the "Judeo Christian blend". However he also continued to call for Israel to ally herself with evangelical Christians while neglecting to note that the pro-Israel evangelical enterprise largely aspires towards a "Judeo-Christian" fusion.

Meotti's call for a separation of faiths can be seen as a brilliant strategic move by advocates of the interfaith partnership, or as somewhat disingenuous and suspect by those who oppose the faith-driven coalition.

Jewish Israel welcomes the call for red lines, but sees things a little differently. Does Giulio Meotti perhaps have something else up his sleeve?...more

I don't think Meotti has anything up his sleeve. Rav Soloveitchik zt"l said that cooperation with non-Jews for social values was permissible and proper, but not interfaith dialogue. Rav Moshe Feinstein zt"l said not even that. Those who accept the position of Rav Soloveitchik are on firm ground here. Supporting Israel is a social and political value. Meotti is not a clergyman or theologian. He is a journalist who is supporting Israel's cause in the media. He does not belong to a church which has been known to have an evangelizing agenda per se. You want him to convert or join the Noahides? Fine, but generally we have no beef with him. Our problem is with our fellow Jews who aren't sure what their values are. There are enought evangelical Christians and anti-Semitic Christians around for us to deal with. Why should a person like this be an issue?

GR, I read the whole article. Did you? The conclusion is not that a person like Meotti is the issue but rather we Jews - the ones swooning to christian serenades of "fellowship" - are.

Mr. Meotti has Catholic politics up his sleeve, I think. Not five sentences into the article and he has started bashing Mitt Romney and his faith and is probably covertly stumping for Rick Santorum (the presumed anti-Romney, anti-Moderate, anti-Sanity R nominee). The Catholic Church WILL once again rule the world...

You mean he's not Jewish? I thought that he was.

I understand what you're saying Goyish but I wonder if my brother who supports Israel and is a Republican would get the same adoring welcome seeing that he is an agnostic.
