"Dark" Mood Here in Israel? The New York Times Reporter Should Clean His Glasses

"Mood Is Dark as Israel Marks 62nd Year as a Nation"

That's how the New York Times titled is article about this year's Israeli Independence Day.  No surprise.  I disagree.  I didn't see any darkness, depression etc, not in Shiloh nor when visiting my cousin who lives west of Ariel in the Sharon, not the Shomron.

There's lots of building here actually on projects begun before Bibi Netanyahu's dangerous building freeze.  And other projects are getting ready to start the minute it thaws.  Families are waiting for houses to be ready or empty out so they can move in.

A few years ago, immediately before and after Disengagement the mood was dark and bitter, no not like fine chocolate.  No, it was more like sour soup laced with tears.

Our Israeli Independence Day celebrations were joyous looking optimistically to the future, with G-d's help.

I had to shake my head over that one also. Wishful thinking on their part. You have to remember that this rag is Obummer's mouthpiece. They can't imagine that we actually feel great that our PM is denying him the right to divide us. How dare us choose Hashem over that once great nation!

Honestly, it's not Bibi who cheers me up. It's more the feeling that we have survived so many enemies, and we'll survive the modern ones, too, G-d willing.

Leave it to the NYT to read darkess into celebration. I think they all need Prozac.

But what can we expect? We know they're horribly biased.

Shalom!
If you wear dark glasses everything looks a bit gray.

And those rosy-Left lenses distort something awful!

I agree. I can recall Independence Days in Israel which were far more depressing over recent years. I think the nation's mood has actually picked up. Obama's done great things for Jewish unity. I think he's made us realize that we have to wean ourselves off of America and stand as a sovereign nation.

The Left may be upset if they have even a sliver of a collective brain, because then they'd realize that nothing is going as they had assumed.

Folks, a little bit of humble pie.

I wouldn't describe it as a dark mood but we should all have concerns.

Threats of war come from the North, from Gaza and from Iran - and those are just the obvious listings.

We have a prime minister and a government who are willing to give away the farm (BTW, Netanyahu will address the nation tonight at 8PM).

We, as a people, are terrible divided in so many aspects.

Even with all the Rachamim we have all experienced here over the years, we all know that there has been plenty of Din to go around and affect so many of us in so many ways.

"Ivdu et Hashem B'simcha" - yes! But "v'gillu bi'raadah". Hope for but don't assume that we are entitled any of the good which comes our way day by day.

Shy, everything is for our best. If all these events finally bring us to the realization that we cannot rely upon anyone/anything but Hashem, very good will come from it. I see things heading in that direction.

Yonatan, one of my Rabbanim told me to always make sure to add the word "u'metukah" to my "Shanna Tova" wishes, because everything is l'tova, but we'd prefer to have our medicine sweet, rather than bitter, if possible.

Amen - may it be so!

Amen
The good positive mood is necessary to fight if need be. It's not a vote of confidence in Bibi; it's acknowledging that the final word isn't with the crooked politicians.
