Ensnared! Not Simple At All

The irony is humorous and potentially tragic here. The United States thinks it can control other nations and communities. It interferes in internal politics. And sometimes it all backfires.

Successive American governments have been trying to "mentor" a more western and moderate Pseudistinian leadership. But their backing is like the "kiss of death."

Interfering in someone else's politics is anti-democratic, because it overrides popular opinion. Wouldn't you agree? According to the polls, Hamas is getting more and more popular.

This was difficult to write, because even I found myself using terms for the Pseudistinians which give the connotation of statehood. We have given the local Arabs much too much "autonomy." Wasn't that the term Menachem Begin coined as a substitute for "statehood?" Begin opened up a few of those dangerous Pandora's boxes.

We're ensnared in a massive thorn bush. It will hurt to get out, but it will hurt more to stay in...
