True, the 2008 United States Presidential Elections are over, and Obama won. But NYC's Michael Bloomberg may be running for 2012. Is that why he visited Sderot and Ashkelon this week, during the war?
The big question is why has Obama been so quiet? Could it have anything to do with the fact this his supporters support the Gazans?

what to make of obama's silence?
it is deafening. he did say when he visited sderot that he would do all he can if it were his daughters being targeted with rockets.
however, he has missed and is missing a great opportunity to repeat that.
why he doesn't? sadly true: not to offend his arab constituency and, also, because, as he said before, hamas et al have some legitimate greiveances (or something to that effect).
the guy is a closet moslem. he is not eligible to hold the office of pres. he was probably born in kenya. there are several witnesses to this. but the us sup. court has done nothing for fear of massive unrest.
if there ever were a potent time for jewish people to connect strongly to hKbH, now is the time.

Why is there even a thought to Bloomberg's visit. Is this still the thought of the 1900's where a politician can be seen in action with the side that will help him get the most votes.
Obama represents the future of politics! Let's keep it at that shall we, and understand that this attack on the Gaza Stip is only for political reasons. Elections coming up in Isreal want to see the party look strong against the PalGov. Also with Obama coming into the scene, they recognize that they will not have the support they are used to with other administrations.
I am not a Jew nor a Muslim, nor am I anything close to the extremist portrayed on the news. I just like to call things by their name and in this case the Jewish community is wrong.

a2, It doesn't matter what century, that's the way politicians are. re: Bloomberg, not too many people, Israelis or foreign dignitaries are visiting the Israeli south, so it's polite to give him publicity.
daniel, yes the price of assimilation is the widening gaps in the American Jewish community.
Yes, a lot of Obama's supporters are all Arab lovers. Obama doesn't want to disappoint anyone.
