Strange Shabbat Story

Anti-Semitism on the New York subways

According to this report, Friday night, that's Shabbat, during Chanukah, some subway riders were beaten after greeting people with a "Happy Chanukah."

The attacker's lawyer defending his client with a "unique defense."

"His mother is Jewish."

That means that the attacker is Jewish according to Halacha.

Does anyone know more about this story?

From Arutz 7 today:
N.Y. Subway Attack on Jews Who Said 'Happy 'Chanuka'
A group of ten anti-Semites taunted four Jewish students on a New York City subway last Friday night saying, "Chanuka is when the Jews killed Jesus," and wishing them "Merry Christmas." When the Jews replied with a "Happy Chanuka" greeting, the anti-Semites beat and cursed the Jews. Police arrested eight men and two women, ages 19 and 20, for assault, harassment and disorderly conduct, according to The Associated Press. The victims suffered bruises on their heads. The Anti-Defamation League applauded "the speed and efficiency of the NYPD and its Hate Crimes Task Force in treating this bias incident seriously, and look forward to seeing the perpetrators prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
