Fuel for Destruction?

Israeli Defense Minister Peretz is trying to shore up his weak, "loser" image by going tough... against the small hilltop communities in Judea and Samaria! He thinks that it will give him more points with Olmert to keep Lieberman out of the government.

Could one of the triggers, also, be the latest poll?

New Poll: Olmert Would Drop Into Third Place

(IsraelNN.com) According to a new poll, things in the government would be very different were elections to be held this week. The Kadima party would drop to third place, behind the Likud and Yisrael Beiteinu according to a new poll published by the Yediot Ahronot daily newspaper.

The survey found that Binyamin Netanyahu’s Likud faction would win 22 Knesset seats, instead of the 12 it current holds. Russian immigrant party Yisrael Beiteinu – with whom Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is now conducting negotiations in an attempt to bring it into his Kadima coalition – would garner 20 seats, up from its current 11 mandates.

Kadima would win only 15 seats, a little more than half of the 29 it now holds. The Labor party, presently the second-largest faction in the government, dropped in the poll to 15 seats from its current 19 mandates.
